The Public Works Department is seeking a
MECHANIC
to join their team. This position performs technical duties related to the repair and rebuilding of trucks and heavy construction equipment for the Public Works Department.

Representative Examples of WorkMaintains, repairs, and rebuilds all Public Works Department vehicles and equipment including troubleshooting and analysis to determine required repairs. Equipment includes gasoline engines, and diesel engines. May repair equipment by welding. May fabricate or assist with fabricating parts or equipment or in mounting steel brackets, mounts, etc. to heavy equipment or trucks. Keeps work area and tools clean and free of hazards.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires high school graduation or GED.
  • Requires five years of experience working as a mechanic which includes working on diesel engines; or in a position in the automotive industry that included mechanic responsibilities. Welding and fabricating experience desired.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Employee must provide their own mechanic's tools. (Employees receive a tool allowance annually.) Physical/Environmental DemandsWork hours may include early morning or late evening hours as well as occasional weekend and holiday work. Frequently works outside during inclement and hazardous conditions. Must be able to report for scheduled work during inclement weather, including icy or snowy roads. Requires medium lifting unassisted (up to 50 pounds) and occasionally moves heavy items (up to 100 pounds) using assistive devices. Requires stooping, crouching, kneeling and crawling. Work environment noise level is frequently loud and may involve exposure to fumes.
