Salary and Step Pay The Longview Police Department values experience and job knowledge. Police officers receive steps from entry-level through 19 years of service. Each anniversary date the officer receives a level increase directly related to their years of service. The Longview Police Department also encourages advancement in rank and longevity in leadership positions by offering steps for new sergeants, lieutenants, and captains as well as for those supervisors who have reached set years of service in their roles. Additional Pay:
Cleaning Allowance:
All commissioned personnel shall receive $600 annually in cleaning allowance.
Shift Differential Pay:
Additional pay is available for evening and overnight shifts.
Bilingual Pay:
Upon demonstrating sufficient Spanish language skills, bilingual officers will be eligible for the City's language incentive pay, which is currently $100.00/month.
Education and Certification Pay:
officers are eligible to receive additional pay according to educational achievement.
Specialty Pay:
certain assignments receive additional compensation.

Specialty Positions and Promotional Opportunities Officers are eligible to apply for specialty positions after 2 years of consecutive service with the Longview Police Department. Officers are eligible to apply for Sergeant promotions after 5 years of consecutive service with the Longview Police Department. Minimum Requirements An applicant interested in serving with the Longview Police Department must meet the following requirements to be considered for a position: U.S. citizen. High school diploma or GED. At least 20 years old. Must turn 21 prior to graduation from an approved Police Academy. There is no maximum age limit. Possess 20/20 vision, either corrected or uncorrected, in each eye. Uncorrected vision cannot exceed 20/100 in each eye unless vision is corrected by the use of contact lenses or glasses which must be worn while on duty and during all law enforcement activities. Must be free from dichromatic color blindness, night blindness, and any other visual deficiencies or limitations. Possess hearing with less than 30 dB loss, either corrected or uncorrected in each ear. Uncorrected hearing cannot exceed 60 dB in each ear. Never convicted of an offense above a Class B misdemeanor and no convictions for a Class B misdemeanor offense within the past 10 years. No convictions for any family violence offense of any degree. Never been or currently on court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above the grade of Class B misdemeanor or for an offense of the grade of Class B misdemeanor within the past 10 years. Not currently under indictment for a criminal offense. Driving records must meet City of Longview standards. All applicants must possess a Texas Driver's License or if they possess an out-of-state driver's license must be licensed to drive by the State of Texas, within 30 days of establishing a residence if they relocate within the state. Of good moral character and have a stable school/work/driving record Must not have received a "dishonorable" or "bad conduct" discharge following a military court-martial. No pending litigation criminal or civil (including divorce).

https://longviewtexas.gov/2743/Hiring-Process Benefits Insurance Sixty (60) days after employment, full-time employees become eligible for life insurance and medical/dental coverage which is provided for a nominal cost to the employee. Dependent coverage is offered at group rates to the employee. The City of Longview offers two plans to choose from Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO) or a High Deductible Health Plan combined with a Health Savings Account (HSA). Vacation Full-time employees immediately begin earning vacation time at the rate of 120 hours per year. Vacation accruals increase with tenure to the City of Longview. Employees can accumulate up to 320 hours of paid vacation time. Military Leave Fifteen (15) days of military leave with pay per year for active duty reserve service. Holidays Full-time employees receive ten (10) paid holidays per year. Sick Leave Full-time employees immediately begin earning sick time at the rate of ten (10) hours per month. Employees can accumulate up to 720 hours of paid sick leave. Retirement Plan The City of Longview participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System. Full-time employees contribute 7% of their gross salary to TMRS and the City provides matching funds at a rate of 2 to 1 upon retirement. Employees can retire with 20 years of service, any age, OR 5 years of service, age 60. All other employees Public Agency Retirement System (PARS). Longevity Pay Full-time employees receive longevity pay at the rate of four dollars per month for each year of service. Cafeteria Plan The City of Longview participates in a Cafeteria Plan in which employees can be reimbursed for medical or childcare expenses in accordance with IRS laws. Bereavement Leave A full-time employee who experiences the death of an immediate family member may be given bereavement leave of up to three (3) working days, with pay, per occurrence to be taken at the time of death. Employee Health Clinic The City of Longview offers an employee health clinic to all employees and dependents who are on the health plan.
