Rotating Shift Work:

Responds to requests for assistance from the public, fellow officers, fire department, and other police agencies. Secures crime scenes, conducts evidence searches, conducts interviews and renders first aid when necessary. Apprehends suspects and testifies in court as appropriate.Performs traffic control operations:
directs traffic, assists motorists, issues citations, investigates accidents involving motor vehicles, testifies in court as necessary. Operate an emergency vehicle during day and night in high-speed emergency and pursuit situations, exceeding posted speed limits when necessary. Exercise due care and caution, including navigating congested traffic, adverse road conditions, and challenging weather, such as fog, smoke, rain, ice, and snow, while disregarding traffic control devices when required. Reads and comprehends rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and the law for purposes of ensuring appropriate officer behavior/response and performing enforcement activities involving the public. Uses all required safety equipment. Minimum Qualifications Education High school graduate or GED equivalent Some college credit from an accredited college or university is preferred. Successful completion of P.O.S.T. academy Current Colorado P.O.S.T. Peace Officer Certification, or Out-of-State Provisional Certification, in good standing Experience None. Previous experience in law enforcement is preferred. Years of related experience may be substituted for required education, however education cannot be substituted for the necessary work experience. Candidates must meet the minimum required years of work experience.NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following pre-offer and post-offer tests in addition to the interview(s): CVSA, physical agility obstacle course, background examination, driving records check, medical examination, psychological examination, drug screening and fingerprint check through CBI/FBI. Cannot have been convicted of a felony or a disqualifying misdemeanor involving moral turpitude Possess and maintain valid driver's license with the ability to obtain a valid Colorado driver's license and safe driving record for continued employment Must be at least 21 years of age. Must possess current, valid Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification by date of hire. Out of state applicants must provide proof of current peace officer certification, and must obtain a Colorado POST provisional certification by date of hire. Candidates must successfully challenge the Colorado POST certification within 6 months of hire. Must be able to obtain valid American Red Cross Standard First Aid and CPR certifications. Ability to meet Department's physical standards. Working Conditions (The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. Required to wear body armor while performing the duties of this job. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; and with explosives Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration. Work involves a significant amount of time spent in a patrol vehicle and a high degree of exposure to hazards and danger (from traffic hazards to the danger inherent in working with career criminals and emotionally unstable persons). Working conditions can be highly stressful. This position also involves shift work including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed. The noise level in the work environment is moderately noisy. Frequently required to sit and talk or hear. Occasionally required to stand; walk; run; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
