Fleet Manager/ Director of Maintenance Job Summary:
The Heavy Duty Class 8 PM Technician is responsible for performing preventive maintenance (PM) services and minor repairs on Class 8 heavy-duty trucks and trailers. This role involves conducting inspections, lubrication, oil changes, filter replacements, and identifying potential mechanical issues before they lead to major problems. The technician will work in compliance with all safety and environmental standards while maintaining a high level of professionalism and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance services on Class 8 trucks and trailers, including oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and inspections.
  • Inspect vehicles for wear, leaks, damage, and other potential mechanical problems.
  • Diagnose and report any necessary repairs or replacements found during inspections.
  • Perform minor repairs such as replacing worn parts, brake adjustments, and tire rotations.
  • Ensure proper documentation of services performed, inspections, and any issues identified.
  • Adhere to all safety and environmental regulations and policies while working on vehicles.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure tools and equipment are in proper working order.
  • Work closely with other technicians and maintenance personnel to coordinate repairs and maintenance.
  • Operate diagnostic tools and equipment to assist in troubleshooting and inspection processes.
  • Keep up to date with the latest developments in vehicle technologies and maintenance practices.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification in diesel technology or automotive maintenance is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience working with Class 8 trucks, performing preventive maintenance and light repairs.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems, braking systems, and diesel engines.
  • Ability to operate diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • A valid commercial driver's license (CDL) is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 75 lbs) and perform physically demanding tasks.
Work Environment:
  • The role involves working in a maintenance shop with exposure to machinery, tools, and hazardous materials.
  • Some outdoor work may be required in varying weather conditions.
  • Safety gear, such as protective eyewear, gloves, and footwear, will be necessary.
