Job Purpose:
The Endpoint Technician I is primarily responsible for troubleshooting and resolving moderately complex software and hardware issues. Assists with identifying, diagnosing, and troubleshooting infrastructure and network issues. Provides preventative action recommendations and assists in finding solutions to recurring software and hardware problems. Will support IT Manager and Security Officer in the operations of information security measures, processes and controls to protect the organization's information systems, networks and data.
Job Functions:
Installs, configures, tests, maintains, tunes, administers, updates, documents and resolves problems on computers, servers, peripherals, mobile devices, network hardware, network software, personal computer software, and cloud services. Monitors the organization's systems and networks for performance and security issues. Participates in the operation of the help desk, and provides end-user customer support and problem solving for all agency hardware and software.\Consults with IT Manager, staff members and users to establish needs assessment, solution strategies. Provides recommendations for the development and maintenance of effective business system support solutions as assigned. Coordinates with vendors as required for procurement, installation and maintenance issues. Supports information security program by assisting with risk assessments, disaster recovery plans and tests, IT audits and/or vulnerability assessments, incident investigations. Performs other related duties as required.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES A
Bachelor's Degree in information technology, computer science, related technical field, or an Associate's Degree in information technology, computer science or related field and two years of relevant work experience, or a High School Diploma with five years of relevant work experience.

Candidates must meet minimum screening requirements for Criminal Justice Information including State of residency and national fingerprint-based record checks.

Ability to understand and apply information technology and security concepts. Moderately complex to complex problem-solving skills. Basic knowledge of potential vulnerabilities and deviations from standard information security practices. Working knowledge of Linux, Windows, VMWare, cloud computing, network switches, and firewalls. Basic knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools used for evaluating risks, data collection, storage, data confidentiality, integrity and availability. Under general supervision of the IT Manager, performs assigned duties independently and exercising mature judgement within established policy guidelines. Employee will participate in individual training needs, responsibilities and certifications as recommended for new IT technology and/or security.

This position is considered essential in the event of an emergency or major disaster. Incumbent is required to participate in emergency or major disaster response activities as outlined in the DOI Disaster Response Plan.
