Work Location :
Remote OSP (Telecommunications) Engineering Field Specialist/Runner Responsibilities of the OSP (Telecommunications) Field Specialist include: Design and plan the installation of outside plant (OSP) network infrastructure for telecommunication systems. Conduct site surveys to assess feasibility and gather necessary data for OSP projects. Manage and maintain documentation related to OSP projects, including design drawings, permits, and as-built records. Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety guidelines during all OSP activities. Be able to perform field surveys and accurately capture field data as required for design. This includes correctly identifying field conditions that will have an impact on design. Accurately relate field conditions via paper drawings, electronic devices, photographs, or other formats specified, back to the project manager and/or client. Accurately record the data and measurements using the standards and symbols required by the client in order to accurately relate the field conditions. Have a solid working knowledge of equipment and plant located in the field and in use by the client, and correctly identify which items need to be documented. Must be able to work with minimal supervision, be self-motivating, and be detail oriented.
Qualifications Explained:
This position requires the individual to have knowledge of Outside Plant. Both fiber and copper. They will be responsible for drafting field notes showing detail for existing and proposed fiber and copper cabling; for either aerial, buried, or a combination of the two environments. These notes will then be passed along to a designer so a CAD version can be generated. The individual will need to be able to properly propose and/or generate field notes of telecom conduit layouts in right-of-way, building entrance conduits, riser facilities, aerial utility routes, join-use pole routes, etc. The candidate should be able to demonstrate the ability to properly and accurately measure facility routes; aerial and underground. While also maintaining accurate notes in regards to what you are measuring/recording/surveying. This person would be engineering's "Eyes in the field". This position best suits someone with good orientation to detail. Physical ability and dexterity are. This position would require someone to be physically able to be on their feet for several hours at a time while surveying and fielding in all seasons. Crossing ditches, walking off-road utility easements and the occasional steep incline are some possible challenges a field specialist would come across.
Tools :
must be familiar with usage of a height stick , pull finder , range finder , measure wheel , etc. Must have an understanding of easement, right-of-way, state route road systems, and their relationship with utilities. Our general expectation would be for the candidate to how to find the width of right-of-way in order to properly propose new fiber and/or copper facilities in accordance with state entity expectations and rule. This position would require the candidate to be able to read and decipher engineering work prints. Both telecommunication drawings, and state provided roadway layout drawings. We're looking for someone with self sufficiency and the ability to work with little or no supervision, while accomplishing the task at hand with expected quality of work and timeliness. Problem solving, and the ability to self identify issues within OSP and communicate them to Engineering for resolution/further investigation.
Computer application experience required:
Google Maps, MS Outlook, MS Word. (Training provided for company associated applications if needed). Authorized to work in the United States. Background check, and motor vehicle record check.
