Mandatory Qualifications:

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a United States citizen High School diploma or equivalent Associate's degree in criminal justice or related field is preferred Must possess excellent moral character for carrying out law enforcement duties Must be free of a criminal conviction record Must be a POST certified police officer. Uncertified applicants will not be considered for this position. POST certified applicants with a break in years of service will be considered but must adhere to Tennessee POST mandates. Candidates who have had more than a three (3) year break, but less than a seven (7) year break in full-time law enforcement service shall enroll in the Commission-approved three (3) week transition school before their certification is reactivated. Out-of-state POST certifications will be considered. Candidates must become a Tennessee POST-certified law enforcement officer within the timeframe specified by the City and the POST Commission. Must not have been terminated or forced to resign from a POST certified position. Must possess a valid State of Tennessee Driver's license. Out-of-state candidates must obtain a Tennessee driver's license within the timeframe specified by state law Must successfully pass Pre-employment and Post-Offer Testing, including a background investigation, drug screen and psychological examination. Failure to pass these will result in revocation of the employment offer. Must pass a post offer pre-employment physical and functional ability exam. Failure to pass these will result in revocation of the employment offer. Must successfully complete an abbreviated Field Training and Evaluation Program. Failure to successfully complete the program will result in removal from employment. Applicants meeting ALL of the mandatory qualifications above will be invited to a panel interview at a date to be determined.
