Job Description
CPT/HCPCS
coding classification systems to all types of patient health encounters to Facilitate optimal reimbursement for Stoughton Health. The coding specialist is also responsible for assigning DRG's on inpatient accounts, identifying chargeable items, and entering changes into the hospital billing system.Essential Functions:
Reviews clinical documentation and accurately assigns appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes using established coding guidelines Initiates communication (written and verbal) regarding documentation that is inadequate or unclear Meets or exceeds minimum productivity standards for coding and abstracting Performs DRG assignment for inpatients, optimizing reimbursement when possible Review electronic health information for other data elements as assigned Utilizes coding & reimbursement software to assist with the assignment of codes and DRG's Knowledge of electronic health record and other software systemsPosition Requirements:
Required:
High School Graduate or Equivalent Preferred:
Graduate of health information administration, health information technician program, or coding specialist program; satisfactory completion of coursework in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, coding (ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPSCS, DRGs, APCs) Prefer 1-2 years hospital inpatient or outpatient coding experienceCertification:
RHIT, CCS-P, CCS, CCA, CIC, COC or CPC Certification Computer Competency:
Basic Computer Skills are expected for this positionMicrosoft Office Suite Skills:
Beginning Skills - Able to perform basic things such as opening a document, change font, save a document, write a letter.Work Shift:
Full-Time, 1.0 FTE 40 hours per weekScheduled Days:
Monday -Friday Shift:
