JOB SUMMARY PURPOSE
Under the direction of the Supervisor - Distribution Crew performs journey-level tasks in constructing, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing underground and/or overhead transmission and distribution lines.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate with or without a reasonable accommodation that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or equivalency; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
EXPERIENCE
Successful completion of the Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship Training Program or other equivalent lineman training program.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of electric transmission and distribution construction, materials, standards, circuits and related equipment. Ability to acquire certification from Department of Transportation (DOT) within six months of hire date. Must possess a valid driver's license and be in compliance as defined by the El Paso Electric Company's Driving Policy. Available to work shift, overtime and/or irregular hours.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Constructs, maintains, relocates, diagnoses problems and repairs transmission and distribution lines (overhead and underground) and power transformers. Installs, removes or changes equipment such as, but not limited to, poles, guy wires, crossarms, transformers and associated devices, sectionalizing switches, capacitors and street lighting. Climbs poles and structures and works from aerial devices at various heights. Works on wooden poles with weight supported by body belt, safety strap and pole climbers to position large transformers on poles; lifts heavy materials/hardware and attaches equipment to poles. Acts, as required, as lead lineman, directing the work of the crew. Complies with all applicable Company policies, procedures and code of ethics as well as all applicable governmental laws and regulations to include employment, safety and environmental standards and regulations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The incumbents in this classification are subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions and temperatures changes of extreme cold weather (below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour) and extreme hot heat (temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour); and exposed to load noises, vibration, hazards, electrical current, high places, chemicals, atmospheric conditions, fumes, odors, mists, gases, poor ventilation, oils and other fluids, and poisonous plants and insects. Incumbents may be required to perform job functions at any time of the day or night.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Climbing:
Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Will be required to live within the El Paso live-in area. If interested in applying for this position, you must apply on-line by 5:00 PM, February 25, 2025.
