All work is performed in accordance with the rules, regulations and coding conventions as established by the American Hospital Association (Coding Clinic), ICD-10, CMS, OSHPD and Client organizational/institutional coding guidelines.

Education/License/Certification:

This position requires a Certified Coding Associate (CCA) and eligibility to become a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA). Completion of classes in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, ICD-10 and CPT coding conventions, and disease process from an accredited program. Must have high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications:

Must have two years of continuous hospital experience in coding/abstracting within the last five years. Demonstrated ability to understand the clinical content of a health record. Demonstrated ability to communicate with physicians in order to clarify diagnoses/procedures and sequencing of diagnoses. Must be able to meet quantity and quality standards established for Coders I. Basic PC skills. Must attain a grade of 75% on the Client coding test. Must maintain a minimum of ten (10) CE units annually. Must maintain current coding credential. Will abide by the AHIMA coding code of ethics Summary As a Certified Coding Specialist, you will be integral to the accurate coding and management of medical records within a hybrid work environment. Reporting to the coding supervisor, your role will leverage core skills in medical terminology, EHR systems, and medical coding to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations. Your premium expertise in DRG, CPT, and ICD-10 coding will be essential for optimizing reimbursement processes. With a focus on detail and accuracy, you will contribute to the overall efficiency of the medical office and support quality patient care through precise documentation. Responsibilities Review and analyze medical records to ensure accurate coding and compliance with regulations. Utilize EHR systems and systems to input and maintain patient data. Apply knowledge of medical terminology and coding standards, including ICD-10, CPT, and DRG. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to resolve discrepancies in medical documentation. Ensure timely and accurate medical billing and collections processes. Stay updated on coding guidelines and participate in ongoing education to maintain certification.
