Job Description
General Description:
As a shop mechanic specializing in both trucks and heavy equipment, you'll diagnose, repair, and maintain a diverse fleet, including trucks, heavy machinery, and related systems, ensuring optimal performance and safety.Key Duties:
Diagnosis and Repair:
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on trucks and heavy equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance, including lubrication, fluid changes, and inspections.
- Repair and replace parts, including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, and electrical systems.
Preventative Maintenance:
- Implement and maintain a preventative maintenance program to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify potential problems and ensure compliance with safety standards.
Record Keeping:
- Document work completed
Field Service:
- Provide field service and answer service calls on heavy equipment.
- Make emergency repairs in the field.
Other Duties:
- Clean and maintain the shop and equipment.
- Order parts and maintain inventory.
- Fabricate and modify parts as needed.
- Consult with other mechanics on smaller jobs.
- Report damaged or faulty equipment to management.
Tools and Equipment:
- Proficiently use a wide variety of hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, and specialized machinery.
- Familiar with electronic diagnostic tools.
- Use welding equipment to fabricate, rebuild, and strengthen various equipment parts.
Qualification Requirements:
Technical Skills:
Strong mechanical aptitude, knowledge of diesel engines, and construction equipment.Diagnostic Skills:
Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical problems.Problem-Solving:
Ability to identify and resolve mechanical issues efficiently.Physical Stamina:
Ability to lift heavy objects and work in various conditions.Communication:
Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and customers.Safety:
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work.Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED, certification as a heavy equipment mechanic, and proven work experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic.Licenses and Certifications:
May require a valid driver's license and other relevant certifications.Job Type:
