General Description:
As a shop mechanic specializing in both trucks and heavy equipment, you'll diagnose, repair, and maintain a diverse fleet, including trucks, heavy machinery, and related systems, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
Key Duties:
    Diagnosis and Repair:
    • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on trucks and heavy equipment.
    • Perform routine maintenance, including lubrication, fluid changes, and inspections.
    • Repair and replace parts, including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, and electrical systems.
    Preventative Maintenance:
    • Implement and maintain a preventative maintenance program to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
    • Conduct regular inspections to identify potential problems and ensure compliance with safety standards.
    Record Keeping:
    • Document work completed
    Field Service:
    • Provide field service and answer service calls on heavy equipment.
    • Make emergency repairs in the field.
    Other Duties:
    • Clean and maintain the shop and equipment.
    • Order parts and maintain inventory.
    • Fabricate and modify parts as needed.
    • Consult with other mechanics on smaller jobs.
    • Report damaged or faulty equipment to management.
    Tools and Equipment:
    • Proficiently use a wide variety of hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, and specialized machinery.
    • Familiar with electronic diagnostic tools.
    • Use welding equipment to fabricate, rebuild, and strengthen various equipment parts.
    Qualification Requirements:
    Technical Skills:
    Strong mechanical aptitude, knowledge of diesel engines, and construction equipment.
    Diagnostic Skills:
    Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical problems.
    Problem-Solving:
    Ability to identify and resolve mechanical issues efficiently.
    Physical Stamina:
    Ability to lift heavy objects and work in various conditions.
    Communication:
    Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and customers.
    Safety:
    Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work.
    Education and Experience:
    High school diploma or GED, certification as a heavy equipment mechanic, and proven work experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic.
    Licenses and Certifications:
    May require a valid driver's license and other relevant certifications.
