Job Description
Examples of Duties Wastewater Collection Operations Performs complex and highly skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of sewer laterals, mains, manholes, lift stations, force mains, and treatment facility components. Ensures all work is in compliance with applicable policies, procedures, laws, codes, safety and health regulations. Leads a pro-active inspection, cleaning, and maintenance program, as assigned, to maintain compliance and prevent overflows. Inspects wastewater collection system for proper operation and condition. Assists with inspecting and maintaining lift stations as assigned. Leads the installations of a wide variety of pipeline fittings and pipeline repair components. Leads installation of manhole rings and covers, and demonstrates ability to adjust manhole ring and cover to grades as needed. Repairs and installs manholes and any other sanitary sewer components. Completes restoration of construction and repair areas, to include installing sod and patching asphalt and concrete as assigned. Relieves or clears sewer system blockages. Leads response to wastewater emergencies per procedures and training to ensure protection of public health, property, and the environment. Leads in locating utilities as assigned. Leads Wastewater Collection programs and other assigned programs. Loads and unloads trucks and maintains stock for daily supplies and materials. Operates heavy equipment and specialized equipment as required in the performance of daily tasks; equipment includes a backhoe, excavator, bobcat, vacuum truck, dump truck, CCTV truck and equipment, fork lift, ditch witch, trencher, compactor, pumps, air compressor, bullet machine, tapping machine, welding tools, mechanic's tools, cutting torch, and various other hand and power tools. Maintains assigned equipment, tools, and vehicles. Leads special assignments, emergencies, or projects, including but not limited to: neutralizing, containing, and collecting overflows; collecting water samples for analysis; performing plant operator duties as required, etc. Leads various notification requirements related to the wastewater or other utility systems as assigned, including determining affected areas, preparing notices, posting of door hangers and knocking on resident's doors, possibly at irregular hours due to emergency. Responds to utility emergencies as required on an emergency basis, 24-hours per day. Subject to call-back at irregular hours. Required to report for Emergency Operations duty as assigned. Duties may include operational assistance within various utility components. Supervisory and Administrative (For Assigned Staff or Situations): Assists in supervising subordinate division personnel. Coordinates staff activities, instructing, scheduling, assigning, inspecting, reviewing and planning work of others. Assists Supervisor with emergency response planning and other operations as assigned. Maintains standards, oversees trouble-shooting and maintenance procedures. Maintains supply inventory and recommends needed tools and equipment to the Supervisor. Ensures proper safety practices and precautions, allocates personnel. Assists Supervisor with employee problems, selecting new employees and recommending transfers, promotions, disciplinary actions, discharges and salary increases. Oversees the completion, submittal and maintaining of required records and reports Receives and responds to customer/public inquiries, concerns, and complaints regarding division activities and services. Performs routine office work as required, including but not limited to attending meetings, answering the telephone, copying and filing documents, reports, etc. May serve in division supervisory capacity as assigned. Provides training, including presentations or demonstrations to staff as assigned. Works for growth and advancement within the profession through maintaining an active apprenticeship program, encouraging participation in professional associations and training/licensing programs. Required to emulate a working environment conducive to positive morale, individual style, quality, creativity, and teamwork. Technical Training As assigned, attends meetings, seminars, courses, workshops, and training to enhance job knowledge, licensing, and skills. With direction from supervisor, studies technical materials in preparing for licensing and for increased job knowledge. Performs All other duties as required. Typical Qualifications
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED Equivalency required. An Associate's or higher degree in chemistry, biology or related field preferred. Vocational/specialized training in the area of wastewater utility operations preferred. Prior Wastewater or Water operations experience or coursework preferred.EXPERIENCE
At least four (4) years of experience in public wastewater systems maintenance, construction, and repair required. At least one (1) year prior supervisory experience required, 2 or more years supervisory experience preferred. A combination of training and experience may be substituted at the City's discretion for required education and/or experience.LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
Valid Florida Drivers' License required. Florida, minimum Level "B", Wastewater Collection Certification required. Ability to obtain Florida Level "A" Wastewater Collection Certification required within 2 years of starting the position as determined by the City. Depending on area of assignment, a Florida Class "B" (CDL) License with Air Brake Endorsement and Tanker Endorsement is required within 180 days of employmentJob Type:
