$23.06 - $32.29 The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.Responsibilities:
GENERAL PURPOSE
Functions as an advanced coder in the abstraction and in-depth analysis of a variety of medical documentation and assigns appropriate procedural terminology and medical codes in accordance with applicable coding rules and policies. Analyzes, enters and manipulates database. Responds to or clarifies internal requests for medical information.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Uses thorough knowledge of coding systems and system logic to review codes created by electronic charge capture and/or assign codes through medical record documentation in accordance with universally recognized coding guidelines. Reviews and resolves coding denials. Resolves problems with claims having errors related to improper coding and provides feedback for correction and follow-up. Abstracts data and reviews codes for accuracy. Performs system edit checks and corrects errors as needed. Responds to coding information requests from various sources. Communicates document improvement opportunities and coding issues to providers, department, and/or designated leader for follow up and resolution. Consults with internal customers and external vendors to obtain greater specificity and/or clarification when documentation appears inconsistent or incomplete. Other duties as assigned.MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years of experience as a medical coder required Associate's degree preferred Or equivalent combination of education and experienceKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of ICD-10CM, CPT and HCPSC required Working knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy requiredLICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) accreditation examination for Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or (Registered Health Information Technician) RHIT or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) preferred or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) or Certified Medical Coder (CMC) from Practice Management Institute preferred EOE Minorities / Females / Protected Veterans /Disabled:
