Where You Will Work Chino is an open-pit copper mining complex located 15 miles from the historic mining community of Silver City in southwestern New Mexico. The historic Chino mine was among the world's first low-grade, open-pit copper mines. Today, the operation consists of a 36,000-metric-ton-per-day concentrator that produces copper and a 150-million-pound-per-year solvent extraction/electrowinning plant that produces copper cathode from solution generated by run-of-mine leaching. Description Highly skilled electrical and/or instrument technician who applies a broad level of process and electrical knowledge to maximize and, where possible, improve the efficiency of the overall production process. These employees have met the qualifications of the company certification process. These workers mentor and train other workers. Safe completion of routine and non-routine repairs and construction Perform preventive maintenance, installation, repair and troubleshooting of industrial electrical and/or instrumentation equipment (i.e. substations, power distribution systems, switchgear motors, motor controls, systems and components, process controls, instrumentation and pneumatic equipment) Provide leadership in areas such as safety, environmental, mentoring of new employees and apprentices, cost control, project management, KPI tracking and measurement, and proactive maintenance management processes Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Five (5) years ofexperience in industrial electrical and/or instrumentation repair and maintenance Qualified under the company certification process Valid state driver's license Must have completed academic and practical competencies required (this includes Line of Progression requirements for internal employees where LOP Exists) and have experience demonstrating the required aptitude. The selected candidate shall demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge and skills while also passing a written assessment where required. This exam is based on skills/abilities and/or academic knowledge; as well as safety. Preferred High School diploma or GED Experience with VFDs, PLC, HMI, and/or SCADA Control Systems Experience working with low and medium voltages Experience with AC and/or DC controls Experience with instrumentation devices Experience with diagnostic electrical test equipment Experience with HVAC equipment Criteria/Conditions Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment Work is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy to heavy objects up to fifty (50) pounds during the course of the workday Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety foot wear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and other protective equipment as required In order to receive full consideration for an interview, candidates must include all experience on their resume that indicates they have successfully met all the minimum requirements listed in this posting Must complete the pre-employment color perception as well as electrical/instrumentation assessment Working weekends, holidays, rotating shifts and both scheduled and unscheduled overtime as business needs dictate Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing What We Offer You The estimated pay range for this role is currently $36.00 - $48.50/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions.
