Minimum Qualifications Substation Electrician I:
Education and/or
Equivalent Experience:
Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus one (1) year of experience in a related electric utility field.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) or ability to acquire license and/or endorsements within 120 days of employment. Produce and maintain an acceptable driving record. Substation Electrician II Education and/or
Equivalent Experience:
Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus two (2) years of experience in a related electric utility field.

Applicants Position Summary:
This position may be filled at either a Substation Electrician II or III level. This position will be a part of the Substation Maintenance group and will report to the Substation Maintenance Supervisor. This position will be working in high voltage substations ranging from 69kV
  • 345kV.
This position will safely assist in the installation, modification, and repairs of Austin Energy's high voltage substations. This position will be available for scheduled, unscheduled, and call back work. This position will be available for rotational on-call stand by and follow all safety procedures and policies.

Commercial Driver's License:
This position requires a valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver License or the ability to acquire one within 90 days of employment. Work Schedule:
This position is categorized as Essential Personnel with the City of Austin. Essential staff are required to work during emergencies or bad weather if they are scheduled to work and, in some cases, when they are not scheduled. Essential employees ensure the continuance of key operations for the City of Austin. Work hours may include after hours, holidays, and weekends and may include on-call shifts.
