in Farmington, Utah. This position performs entry level technical accounting and bookkeeping work for Davis County. Minimum Qualifications:
Level l High school graduation or equivalent One year of full-time experience in accounting or bookkeeping; or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. Level ll Graduation from high school or equivalent. Two years of full-time experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or payroll; or an acceptable combination of education and experience. Level lll Graduation from high school or equivalent. Four years of full-time progressively responsible experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or payroll, two years of which must have been performed in the capacity of an Accounting Technician II or equivalent position; an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
Career Ladder:
This position is part of a career ladder job series. An incumbent may be eligible for career ladder advancement to Accounting Technician II on his or her eligibility date after meeting the minimum requirements for the position and upon supervisor's recommendation and Administrative Officer concurrence. Day to Day Duties Level l Performs billing, checking, correcting, posting, and updating of client or vendor accounts/records. Performs computer data entry. Requests documents through an automated system or prepares manual documents as necessary. Balances cash on hand against receipts; prepares and balances deposits; maintains appropriate spreadsheets. Receipts and reconciles client, customer and third party accounts; balances financial records and performs bookkeeping functions. Updates and maintains filing system and records; compiles monthly, quarterly, and annual statistical reports. Performs clerical support duties including general typing and filing, receives phone calls and answers questions, transfers calls, or takes messages; orders necessary supplies. Level ll Posts disbursements and receipts; develops and maintains records of individual accounts; computes periodic billings and accounts; records payments received; reconciles complex and detailed statements, including bank statements; prepares and submits invoices and purchase orders. Performs a variety of related fiscal clerical work including preparing, typing, and compiling accounting reports and billings; performs data entry and spreadsheet maintenance assuring completeness and accuracy of reports; establishes filing systems and various receipt and expenditure ledgers. Communicates with Clerk/Auditor department and vendors in updating accounting and bookkeeping systems. Designs and improves financial report formats and accounting processes. Maintains inventory; orders, receives, stores, tags, and distributes supplies and equipment; compiles and tabulates data for records and reports. Enters biweekly payroll and maintains payroll and leave records; balances totals; prepares summaries for posting. Balances cash on hand against receipts; prepares and balances deposits. Assists visitors in filling out forms and applications; audits applications; answers questions. Performs general clerical support duties including typing and filing, receiving telephone calls, responding to questions, transferring calls, and taking messages. Level lll Compares expenditures with budget appropriations; records bookkeeping entries against department accounts payable and receivable; posts disbursements and receipts; develops and maintains records of departmental accounts; computes periodic billings and accounts; records payments received; reviews and reconciles complex and detailed account statements, including bank statements; prepares budgetary reports, insurance reports, and other supportive reports; prepares and submits invoices and purchase orders. May be assigned to perform lead worker duties and assist with supervisory duties. Performs a variety of complex clerical and accounting functions including preparing, typing, and compiling reports and billings, establishing filing systems and various receipt and expenditure ledgers. May perform payroll and bookkeeping duties for several divisions within the department; may be responsible for processing and maintaining Personnel Actions and other employee records. Enters and edits data assuring completeness and accuracy; creates and maintains a variety of spreadsheets; compiles and organizes financial data and statistics related to various financial reports; recommends modifications to data processing system; assists in enhancing and developing software; establishes filing systems and various receipt and expenditure ledgers. Communicates with the Clerk/Auditor department for purposes of modifying accounting and bookkeeping systems. Works with vendors and customers as required. Assists other Accounting Technicians in completing forms; answers questions. Designs and improves financial report formats and accounting processes.
