As a Roller Operator, your primary responsibility will be to operate the roller equipment effectively and efficiently to achieve proper compaction of the asphalt mat. Your attention to detail, knowledge of compaction techniques, and commitment to safety will contribute to the successful completion of our paving projects. You will work closely with the Foreman or Leadman, following instructions, and prioritizing safety while delivering exceptional results. We are seeking a dedicated individual who is proactive in identifying and addressing safety concerns, takes pride in their workmanship, and contributes to the overall success of our crew.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
Operate the roller equipment to achieve proper compaction of the asphalt mat, following project specifications and quality standards. Conduct thorough quality checks to ensure accurate compaction and a smooth surface finish. Maintain the string line for precise alignment and accurate compaction. Assist in the setup and maintenance of erosion control measures, flagging traffic, and ensuring a safe work environment. Safely load and unload materials, such as asphalt and aggregate, as required for the paving process. Perform manual labor tasks including shoveling dirt, gravel, and asphalt to support the paving crew. Keep the job site clean and organized by removing debris and performing general cleanup duties. Check and maintain grade levels to ensure proper pavement thickness and accurate compaction. Set up and maintain all traffic control aids, including signs and barricades, to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow. Monitor gauges, dials, and indicators on the roller equipment to ensure proper operation and adjust when necessary. Conduct daily maintenance checks on the roller, including inspections, lubrication, and fluid level checks. Report any equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or issues to the supervisor immediately. Adhere to all safety protocols, processes, and procedures to maintain a safe work environment. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and always ensure its proper use. Perform any additional duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Skills:
A minimum of two years of experience as a Roller Operator in the paving industry. In-depth knowledge of roller equipment operations and compaction techniques. Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work. Familiarity with traffic control protocols and the ability to flag traffic safely. Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual labor tasks, including shoveling and lifting materials. Excellent teamwork and communication skills to effectively coordinate with the paving crew. Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities or work demands. Basic knowledge of equipment maintenance and the ability to conduct routine checks and basic repairs.
