Job Description
DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented Metrology Technician- Level II to join our team specializing in Quality for our Cummins Inc.
Support Engineers :
By applying technical principles of dimensional measurement science, you'll help engineers improve test systems and processes.Conduct Testing :
You'll perform product and component testing using various measurement methods, ensuring accurate and reliable results.Automate Procedures :
Utilizing established and automated testing procedures, you'll enhance efficiency and consistency in testing.Program and Operate M&TE :
Your skills in programming, training, and operating Measurement and Test Equipment will be crucial for accurate measurements.Technical Resource :
Assisting lab managers, engineers, and customers in selecting appropriate test methods and analyzing data will make you a valuable technical resource.Customer Support :
Helping customers understand product specifications and measurement data will improve their satisfaction and trust in the lab's capabilities.Quality Assurance :
Participating in inter-laboratory comparisons, measurement assurance programs, and maintaining the lab's quality system will ensure high standards are met.Continuous Improvement :
Your involvement in continuous improvement activities related to data quality and the lab quality system will drive ongoing enhancements and efficiency.RESPONSIBILITIES

Apply dimensional measurement science to develop and implement measurement/inspection processes. This ensures capable measurement results that support design validation and conformity assessment, meeting regulatory and customer requirements.Measurement Science :
Analyze measurement processes to identify and quantify sources of measurement uncertainty. This involves understanding various types of metrology, such as chemical, dimensional, electrical, mechanical, optical, and radiation.Valuing Differences :
Recognize and appreciate the value of diverse perspectives and cultures. This will foster an inclusive environment and enhance team collaboration.Laboratory Management :
Lead technical resources and manage the business aspects of the laboratory. Ensure compliance with certifications and accreditations, and use measures to control both technical and business operations.Education and Certification :
A high school diploma or equivalent experience is required. Additionally, a relevant certification or an associate degree from an accredited college program will be beneficial. Be aware of any licensing requirements for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.Education, Licenses, Certifications:
High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations. A regionally applicable Certification (e.g. US Department of Labor) or two year Associates Degree from an accredited college program in a relevant field of study. This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.Experience:
Requires some work experience and intermediate level knowledge obtained through training or on-the-job experience.QUALIFICATIONS
- Calibration and PM of precision measurement equipment within the JEP Metrology area.
- Scheduling and prioritizing workloads and measurement projects for Machining, Assembly, Engineering support, etc. at JEP
- Flexible at using various forms of Metrology Lab equipment on a given day
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
- Significant experience, knowledge , and daily use of the English & Metric system and conversions
- Extensive PC use required , and of specific software based programs in gage instruments required : Omnisurf, Profilemaster, Quindos CMM language, Taylor Hobson Measurement software , Windows 10, Indysoft Gage Calibration software , Surface profile systems, etc.
- Excellent working knowledge of machining processes and related gaging required ; engine component familiarity required
- High experience level with GD&T and blueprint experience required
- Requires a large amount of mechanical aptitude along with strong 'hands on' experience with gages and precision measurement equipment usage.
- Requires a high motivation level to learn/ experience Metrology and extreme measurment equipment
- Capable of working in a temperature/humidity controlled environment daily ( 68 deg. F
- ½ deg, < 30% humidity)
- Preferences for and demonstrated abilities to work in an environment requiring : Close tolerancing measurements(. 00001"/ .0001mm OR finer resolution ) high tolerance
- Assists customers with interpreting product specifications and application of measured data results
