The Charge Capture Specialist 3 uses their advanced knowledge of coding and charge capture to work complex charging scenarios, provide education and assistance to fellow team members and develop processes/procedures to ensure accurate and timely capture of all chargeable procedures. The Charge Capture Specialist 3 also provides high-level professional support in working advanced outpatient coding edits as well as auditing charges for service lines with potential missed revenue opportunities. The individual who holds this position exemplifies the Rush mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.Required Job Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED Minimum 3-5 years of healthcare experience working with billing, charge entry, charge capture, research or CDM. AAPC or AHIMA certification in coding with experience in research medical billing and coding.Certifications may include:
Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) and Certified Medical Coder (CMC), and any other specialized coding certification approved by the two main governing bodies. Proficient and functional knowledge of reviewing and auditing charges in an EMR system (i.e. EPIC). Advanced knowledge of medical terminology as well as medical billing language. Must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the three code sets that are currently in use: Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), ICD-10-CM, and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) Level II. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong investigative and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with MS Office Suite. Ability to learn and apply technical knowledge in the areas of charge capture, medical coding and revenue cycle in a consultative manner. High degree of accuracy for analyses and processes.Preferred Job Qualifications:
Associates Degree In-depth understanding of various billing, payment and coding systems in healthcare. Experience working advanced outpatient coding edits (OCEs) Knowledge of Medicare coverage decisions, benefit policy manuals and billing processes.Physical Demands:

1.Accurately enters charges on patient accounts for services rendered by Rush clinicians in accordance with CMS and AMA guidelines 2.Responsible for assigned Account, Charge Review, and Claim Edit Work queues and the continual monitoring, reduction, and transfer of AR associated with assigned areas 3.Works with external vendors to review charge capture opportunities and documentation to identify missed charges. Educates departments on missed charges to remediate going forward 4.Serves as subject matter expert for fellow team members to review questions and assist with resolving accounts 5.Follows-up on all incomplete and inaccurate charges and makes prompt corrections 6.Assists with development and ongoing revisions to Rush coding/charging policies and guidelines. 7.Conducts systematic review of medical records and utilizes coding expertise to ensure that clinical documentation supports all billed charges. 8.Meets or exceeds quality and productivity standards set by direct manager 9.Researches all current and future complex Medicare requirements for compliant billing, timely payment and maximum reimbursement. 10.Complies with guidelines through use of resources such as Vitalware and CMS. 11.Provides input and implements process improvement initiatives recognizing revenue enhancement and charge integrity opportunities. 12.Assists with reporting and scheduling of team performance and assignments as needed or requested by direct manager 13.Communicates, observes, and reports on charge entry trends and patterns and provides recommendations for improvement 14.Engages in continual education and training in the subject field. 15.Other relevant duties and special projects as assigned.
