Full Job Description Overview:
Herzog Transit Services, Inc. is currently seeking Technicians in Santa Ana, CA to join our team. The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $30.00
Duties and Responsibilities:
This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position. Position reports directly to the Lead Technician Perform diagnostics, troubleshooting and repair of electronic propulsion systems Perform diagnostic, troubleshooting and repair of fare collection systems, electronic destination signage, PA systems, electronic displays and other electronic systems typically found on transit vehicles Perform thorough preventative maintenance inspections in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines Make routine mechanical repairs and adjustments Troubleshoot systems and locate causes of electrical, electronic and mechanical failures Use test equipment, typical shop tools, torque wrenches, multimeter, power supplies, oscilloscopes and portable test units Check and inspect the condition of Streetcars; report and repair defects such as defective lights, body damage, interior damage, and operating defects Maintain cleanliness and safety of the shop facility and surrounding areas Tag and document defective parts Perform vehicle recovery duties including towing/pushing disabled vehicles; assist with re-railing of cars, as necessary Clean exterior of streetcars by hand washing and steam cleaning, using a variety of solvents, soaps, cleaning chemicals and tools Operate streetcars in yard limits Check and replenish consumables such as wiper fluid and sand Prepare and maintain a variety of computer-generated records and reports Right of Way support, sub-stations/crossing gates/overhead line/track/switches Participate in the hazard identification and resolution process Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog's Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position. Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. College or Technical School degree is a plus. Experience with Streetcar and/or PLC system maintenance. Skill in maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting, and overhauling electrical and mechanical systems. Experience in the diagnostics, troubleshooting and repair of electronic propulsion systems. Experience in the diagnostics, troubleshooting and repair of fare collection systems, electronic destination signage, PA systems, electronic displays and other electronic systems typically found in transit vehicles. Knowledge of mechanical and electrical principles, repair methods, standards and practices. Knowledge of test equipment and tools needed in the repair, maintenance, and installation of mechanical, electronic and electrical systems and equipment. Strong knowledge of electronics including digital and analog systems. Knowledge of general shop safety procedures. Skill communicating orally and in writing. Skill in performing maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and safety/preventive maintenance inspections. Skill in implementing preventive maintenance and safety inspection procedures. Skill in using test and shop equipment and tools, parts and supply manuals. Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of business. Skill in the use of electronic schematics, portable test units and diagnostic software. Ability to read, understand and apply technical information from service manuals. Ability to read and follow verbal and written directions; ability to read, understand, and apply technical information found in repair manuals, service change bulletins, and applicable technical documents, including parts and supply manuals. Ability to operate a computer and familiarity with MS Office products and maintenance information systems. Ability to obtain and maintain a Streetcar Yard Operation certification.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review. Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position. Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This position will be physically demanding at times. This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements of this job. Regularly lift weight up to 75 pounds to a height of up to 56 inches. Regularly carry weight up to 75 pounds to a distance up to 100 feet. Regularly push/pull up to 50 pounds for a distance up to 50 feet. Regularly grasp or squeeze with forces up to 40 pounds. Regularly ascend and descend a 10 step ladder with up to 25 pounds. Frequently climb on/off equipment. Work in a confined access/space environment with a height of 12 inches and a width of 24 inches. Regularly kneel, bend, squat while transferring up to 25 pounds of weight. Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time. Able to walk on uneven surfaces up to 1 mile. Regularly lay on back for extended periods of time. Regularly reach overhead while holding tools. Must be able to be aware of surroundings and follow verbal commands while being exposed to moderately loud noises on a daily basis. Must be able to adapt to various temperature extremes including but not limited to heat, cold, moisture and wind. Must be able to work in a safety sensitive work environment. Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position. Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
