Feb 17, 2025 Job Description A position has been declared open in the Weber School District in Maintenance for a Heavy Equipment Operator/Landscaper. Purpose Statement/Job Overview:
The job of Heavy Equipment Operator/Landscaper was established for the purpose of operating heavy equipment i.e. tractor, dump truck, skid loader, mini-excavator etc. and maintaining irrigation systems. This position will also assist other grounds crew trades in performing their functions and will maintain equipment in safe operating conditions. This job reports to Grounds Foreman.
Essential Functions:
Assists with landscaping (e.g. cut/lay sod, apply chemical treatments, operate trencher, repair sprinklers, remove trees/shrubs, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that projects are completed in a timely manner. Assists with snow removal (e.g. shovels, operates snow blower and/or snowplow) for the purpose of ensuring a safe environment. Cleans grounds and related areas (e.g. storm drains, level paved/unpaved surfaces, grading, digging, tilling, trenching, etc.) for the purpose of preventing flooding and removing hazards. Hauls various items in commercial vehicles and trailers (e.g. trash, debris, aggregates, heavy items, sand, dirt, etc.) for the purpose of removing unwanted items and/or delivering items in compliance with state, federal and/or administrative guidelines. Installs fencing, overhead door parts, etc. for the purpose of providing ongoing maintenance and repair. Lays/Pour/Finishes concrete for the purpose of providing safe and attractive grounds and/or preventing erosion. Maintains and repairs tools and/or equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition. Operates heavy equipment (e.g. tractor, backhoe, skip loader, man-lift, concrete cutter, snowplow, etc.) for the purpose of providing the necessary assistance to the other trades in the completion of their functions, as well as completion of scheduled and unscheduled work. Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns. Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, furniture, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at the job site. Assesses and repairs problems and/or failures in irrigation systems for the purpose of identifying repair and/or replacement needs. Inspects irrigation systems and related equipment (e.g. pumps, valves, sprinklers, backflow valves, etc.) for the purpose of identifying repair and/or replacement needs and maintaining schedules. Must have or be able to obtain a CDL operator's permit.
Other Functions:
Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. Physical Demands Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The work also requires the following physical abilities in order to perform the essential job functions; balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking. Working Conditions Employees in this position work in a dynamic environment that requires them to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs. Job Requirements/Minimum Qualifications (Skills, Knowledge and Abilities): Must be able to adhere to safety practices; operating heavy equipment and equipment used in grounds maintenance (e.g. trucks, jackhammer, backhoe, manlift, forklift, hand tools, concrete cutter, snowplow, etc.). Must have knowledge of heavy equipment operation including trucks, jackhammer, backhoe, manlift, forklift, hand and power tools, concrete cutter, snowplow, etc.; general construction work; safety practices and procedures; and health standards and hazards. Must be able to adapt to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; meeting deadlines and schedules; and working as a cooperative and effective team member.
Experience:
Job related experience is required.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
