JOB SUMMARY
The Position:
Performs highly advanced installation, maintenance, and repair work of plumbing systems and components. Responsibilities include coordinating and overseeing the assembly, installation, or repair of pipes, fittings, or fixtures for heating, water, and/or draining systems. The individual may also serve as a lead worker, providing direction and supervision to other team members. About TFC:
The Texas Facilities Commission (TFC) builds, supports, maintains, and manages over 8 million square feet of state-owned facilities that house over twenty thousand state employees in dozens of state agencies, all working in the service of the citizens of Texas. The Facilities Management and Operations (FMO) Division oversees a varied property portfolio of office space, storage, warehouses, schools, medical labs, parking lots and garages, and grounds throughout Texas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Coordinates and performs pipe cutting, welding, preassembly, and installation of various plumbing systems or components. Reviews blueprints, building codes, or specifications to determine work details or procedures. Performs skilled technical work in the installation, repair, replacement, and maintenance of domestic water systems, heating systems, sewer systems, gas pipe, steam pipes, and other plumbing fixtures. Assembles and installs pipe sections, fittings, valves, and fixtures using various techniques and tools. Measures, cuts, threads, or bends pipe as needed using hand or power tools. Repairs or replaces damaged plumbing fixtures, ensuring proper adjustments and connections. Practices preventive maintenance of plumbing tools and equipment, ensuring they are in optimal working condition. Performs complex plumbing tasks and provides technical assistance to other plumbing personnel, vendors, and contractors. Makes sketches for plumbing layouts and determines necessary materials. Coordinates and prepares work orders, reports, and records. Recommends and installs energy-efficient and water-conserving equipment. Assists with documenting repair costs, keeping accurate records of materials and labor using the work order system. May inspect the work of others to ensure compliance with applicable codes. Records backflow testing data onto specified platforms. May serve as a lead worker, providing direction to others and assisting in employee evaluations. Assists skilled workers from related trades in plumbing maintenance. Performs any other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
AND EXPERIENCE FOR PLUMBER III
Graduation from a standard senior high school or completion of GED. Five (5) years experience in building maintenance and repair related to plumbing. Journeymans plumbing license issued by the State of Texas. Vocational or technical training in the plumbing trade may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis Valid State of Texas Class C driver license. Must possess the ability to attest to and maintain the security or integrity of the state's critical infrastructure requirement to be considered for hire and to maintain employment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE FOR PLUMBER IV
Graduation from a standard senior high school or completion of GED. Ten (10) years experience in commercial, residential, and industrial plumbing Vocational or technical training in the plumbing trade may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis. Backflow Certified preferred, able to be certified within one year of hire. Valid State of Texas Class C driver license. Masters plumbing license issued by the State of Texas. Must possess the ability to attest to and maintain the security or integrity of the state's critical infrastructure requirement to be considered for hire and to maintain employment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge:
Extensive knowledge of the repair, maintenance, and operation of plumbing systems, equipment, safety practices, and procedures. Knowledge of the maintenance and repair of steam, water, and natural gas distribution systems. Knowledge of construction procedures sufficient to plan and execute plumbing projects.
Skills:
Considerable skill in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing equipment. Skill in the use of oxygen-acetylene soldering equipment. Skill in using various tools and equipment. Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing. Skill in the use of personal computers, phones, texting, and video for documenting problems.
Abilities:
Ability to estimate materials and the costs of plumbing projects. Ability to apply proper methods, techniques, and procedures in the maintenance and repair of plumbing systems and related equipment. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Ability to work off of various types of ladders and scaffolds to access plumbing equipment in overhead spaces. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to read and understand blueprints. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to provide excellent customer service. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and the public.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR WORKING CONDITIONS
This position requires the ability to stoop, bend, lift, and stand for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to move 55 lbs. and, occasionally, 100 lbs. of products and materials. Must be able to work outdoors and in various weather conditions. Must be able to navigate uneven terrain and at various heights using ladders and lifts.
WORK SCHEDULE
7:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. This position is designated as a Mandatory/Essential Employee position. Must be able to work flexible hours during a legislative session and as needed. Occasional travel out of Travis County may be required. Must be on the on-call rotation.
