NSC Staffing NSC Staffing is seeking an experienced Shipyard Refrigeration Technician for an exciting opportunity to perform maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair tasks on AC/R equipment aboard Navy vessels, job sites, and in our workshop in Hampton Roads. Position Overview:
As a Shipyard Refrigeration Technician , you will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, installing, and repairing air conditioning and refrigeration (AC/R) equipment, components, and systems. This position involves working on Navy vessels and various job sites, ensuring optimal system performance and adherence to safety and regulatory standards. You will work closely with the Project Manager and team to ensure work progress and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance & Repairs:
Inspect, test, repair, and replace faulty AC/R systems, components, and circuits on Navy vessels and other job sites.
System Adjustments:
Adjust system controls and settings based on manufacturer recommendations to ensure system balance.
Customer Liaison:
Communicate with customers to assess issues, schedule work, and track project progress.
Knowledge Application:
Utilize basic AC/R theory, Navy specifications, material properties, and operation principles to troubleshoot and maintain systems.
System Assembly & Mounting:
Assemble, position, and mount AC/R equipment based on blueprints and manufacturer specifications, ensuring compliance with standards and codes.
Troubleshooting & Testing:
Perform troubleshooting and testing of 24-volt DC, 110-volt AC, and 440-volt AC systems.
Refrigerant Handling:
Practice safe, regulatory handling of various refrigerants used in AC/R equipment.
Tools & Equipment Use:
Operate various tools, such as refrigeration gages, recovery machines, vacuum pumps, power tools, and test equipment (volt-ohm meters, ammeters, etc.).
Physical Demands:
Perform physically demanding tasks like lifting heavy objects, positioning HVACR equipment, and working at heights.
Project Support:
Assist the Project Manager, supervisor, and foreman in completing necessary tasks and duties.
Qualifications & Experience:
High school diploma or GED required. 4+ years of related experience or equivalent combination of training and experience in the maritime field. Tech school/Trade school certification preferred but not required. EPA Universal Certification required. Basic knowledge of AC/R systems, theory, Navy specifications, and properties of materials. Ability to work with electrical systems ranging from 24-volt DC to 440-volt AC. Experience using various AC/R tools and testing equipment. Ability to lift heavy objects and work in physically demanding environments.
Work Environment:
This position will require working on Navy vessels, job sites, and in workshops. The work environment can include confined spaces, heights, and other challenging conditions.
