The starting salary is currently $84,754 (2024) annually increasing to $117,427 after 6 years (2024), with an increase to $119,775 after 15 years (2024). Applicants for examination must be citizens of the United States, except that an individual who is not a citizen but is legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law or is an individual against whom immigration action has been deferred by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services under the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) process is authorized to apply for the position of police officer, subject to (i) all requirements and limitations, other than citizenship, to which other applicants are subject and (ii) the individual being authorized under federal law to obtain, carry, or purchase or otherwise possess a firearm; Must have High School diploma or equivalent high school education; Must be 21 years of age, and under 35 years of age at time of application (February 10, 2025) , or as otherwise exempt by statute Must have completed forty-five (45) semester hours of college credit (100 level or above) from a regionally accredited college or university- a copy of official transcripts required by application deadline (February 10, 2025); Must have a valid driver's license; Must submit a valid Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) issued by testing date (February 20, 2025) . Preference Point Information:
Following successful completion of the written exam, you will have an opportunity to collect a maximum of five (5) preference points. Preference points will be available in the following categories:Military Experience:
Veterans with not less than one year of active duty and an honorable discharge from service (or who are now or may hereafter be on inactive or reserve duty)- 5
Points Law Enforcement Certification:
Must have successfully completed the Minimum Standard Basic Law Enforcement Training Course as provided within the Illinois Police Training Act and are currently serving as a full-time or part time law enforcement officer within the State of Illinois.- 5 points
Educational Preference:
Must have obtained one of the following: An Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement from a regionally accredited institution- 1 Point (not cumulative) A Bachelor's Degree in any field from a regionally accredited institution
- 2 points (not cumulative) A Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement from a regionally accredited institution

A recorded video of that Orientation will also be made available.Mandatory Remote On-Line Written Examination:
Following completion of all application materials and review of minimum qualifications, successful applicants will be invited to participate in remote on-line written exam testing starting at 9:00 AM on Thursday, February 20, 2025 through Sunday, February 23, 2025 at 4:00 PM. The test will only be available during this time period. Candidates will need to have access to a laptop or desktop computer. All candidates will receive an email approximately one week prior regarding their status in the process, along with further instructions for taking the on-line written exam.NOTE:
