ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Complete field work requests directed by Manager of the Transmission and Distribution department. All Utility person must support their team's daily maintenance of water mains, services, valves and meter pits. Take direction from crew leader during field work at job sites. Communicate with co-workers, customers, contractors, and Supervisor/Manager during field requests. Ensure that Utility Workers perform under Artesians established safety policies and procedures. Follow all requirements of operating commercial vehicles including all state, federal, and company standards.
DUTIES:
Provide manager with updates on completion of field work. Perform day-to-day maintenance on mains, services, hydrants and meter pits. Locate, access, and operate valves in field. Complete new service installations that are requested from planning department. Perform blacktop and concrete restoration work. Complete topsoil restoration and restore area to normal grading. Investigate leaks and report to Supervisor/Manager. Perform flushing requirements as required for field work. Maintain/Complete daily inspections on company assigned equipment, tools, and vehicle. Perform traffic control set-up, maintenance and removal. Train and develop on all field aspects performed by T&D Department including locator/inspector, fire hydrant/valve maintenance. Complete work orders daily using Mobile Work Order System. Provide detail on or for work order completion to allow for necessary restoration follow up. Use ARC GIS system to identify locations of curb stops and valves. Capture pictures of field work before and after completion of assignment. Advise Dispatch during service interruption of repairs. Contact Dispatch to enter emergency Miss Utility Tickets as needed. Prepare and report time sheets daily to Supervisor/Manager. Check emails and provide timely responses to field work. Ensure all Utility person perform under all state, federal, and company established safety policies and procedures. Maintain an open line of communication with Safety during emergency/non-emergency field work. Follow all requirements of operating commercial vehicles including all state, federal, and company standards. Maintain all documentation for DOT including pre and post trip inspections. Responsible for maintaining, reporting (and upkeep for all company assigned equipment. Maintain licenses for CDL Class A, Asbestos, respirator, and any other requirements for position. Respond to emergency calls received by base operator after hours. Perform rotating weekday and weekend on-call duty. Learn, develop, and cross train within all duties of position for advancement opportunities. Advise Supervisor with on-call personnel changes in advanced. Using two -way radio to keep connected with base throughout day. Perform any and all other appropriate functions as required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma. Minimum of two years of construction working around heavy machinery. Ability to maintain and operate electronic devices for field work completion. Must possess a valid driver's license and ability to obtain and maintain Class A commercial driver's license. Must be 21 years of age with at least two years of driving experience to drive interstate. Knowledge and operation of dump trucks are helpful.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a variety of physical activities including, but not limited to climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, standing and walking to perform water main repairs, blacktop and concrete work. Speaking, hearing, reading and writing are necessary to communicate with other employees and to fill in for Street Crew Leader when required. Minimum normal vision is required to perform all aspects of job. Requires the ability to learn related steps, processes, or elementary methods.
PHYSICAL EFFORT
Job requires ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT
Job requires exposure to outside environmental conditions such as extreme heat and cold along with proximity to moving mechanical parts, vibration, noise, fumes, odors, dusts, and gases. Sometimes requires use of a respirator or other breathing apparatus.
