Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector 3.7 3.7 out of 5 stars Lakeville, MN Position The City of Lakeville is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector to join our team! This role ensures the safety and code compliance of plumbing and HVAC systems in new and existing buildings. The Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector reviews plans, conducts on-site inspections, and communicates with contractors to resolve deficiencies. They also manage permits, calculate fees, and educate stakeholders on code requirements, while maintaining accurate records and staying updated on industry advancements.

A deep understanding of residential and commercial construction. Expertise in plumbing and HVAC codes, with a knack for interpreting complex regulations. The anticipated starting salary range is: $39.36 - $42.37, DOQ 2025 salary range is $39.36 - $50.93 Major Areas of Accountability Review plans for plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and energy regulation compliance with applicable codes and city ordinances. Conduct inspections on all permitted construction work involving plumbing in new and existing structures to ensure that installations are made consistent with the State Plumbing Codes. Conduct inspections on all permitted construction work involving heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in new and existing structures to ensure that installations are made consistent with the State Mechanical Codes. Communicate directly with contractors to make sure any code deficiencies are corrected. Advise contractors of possible methods of corrections. Verify after corrections are made that they comply with code. Review permit applications to assure that they accurately reflect work anticipated and correct inconsistencies when found. Calculate permit fees based on fee schedule adopted by City Council. Maintain daily inspection and related records in an up-to-date and orderly fashion to expedite department record keeping procedures. Use automated permit issuing system to enter inspection results and obtain permit information. Assist contractors, homeowners, engineers and designers in understanding and conforming to Plumbing, Mechanical, and Building Codes, along with City Ordinances. Investigate complaints filed at the City and take appropriate action to secure correction of the problem. Review new or substitute materials used in plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning installations and make recommendations for acceptance or rejection. Keep fellow inspectors and Building Official advised of significant information necessary for the satisfactory completion of department affairs. Remain familiar with new materials, equipment, methods of construction, and changes in the Code to assure that building codes are administered in a fair and effective manner. Develop an understanding of the MN Residential Code to be able to assist with simple project inspections such as, re-roofs, re-sides, decks, and residential remodels as needed during times of heavy demand. Work directly with the Senior Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector for uniformity and understanding of city policies and procedures. Perform other duties as apparent or assigned.KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Must have demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with developers, contractors, owners, designers, and general public. Complete understanding of residential and commercial construction. Ability to assist builders by relating codes to their projects and thereby achieving compliance. Knowledge of new fixtures and materials and their applied uses. Ability to understand and interpret the City Code and Ordinances. Strong oral and written communication skills. Qualifications High School Education or equivalent Valid driver's license. Five (5) years related experience in inspections or building trades, including experience with plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
