Full Job Description General Summary:
Operates and maintains equipment used for road construction and maintenance; and assists in the construction and repair of county roads, culverts, ditches, and bridges.
Essential Duties:
Other duties may be assigned. Operates any equipment at Road and Bridge including, but not limited to, 18-wheeler, motor grader, backhoe, rubber tire loader, steel roller, tractor and shredder, bulldozer and water truck. Maintains equipment, including checking oil, water, fuel tires and hydraulic system, and making appropriate adjustments; Patches, tamps, packs, and levels hot mix, dirt or other materials during road repair; Smooths road surfaces; Clears ditches and culverts; Installs and repairs culverts; Performs work with hand tools, including digging trenches, cutting down trees and brush, and removing driftwood and debris from culverts and right of way; Loads heavy equipment, standard hand tools, and road maintenance materials onto haul truck; Drives truck to haul material to and from work site; Surveys roads for potential hazards and secures appropriate hazardous warning signs; and May dispose of animal carcasses. Other Duties as assigned.

This is a non-supervisory position.
Education Required:
High school graduation or its equivalent; or any combination of equivalent education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker endorsement (valid).

Methods, practices, equipment, and materials used in the maintenance of roadways, safe operation of the equipment used and of the provisions of the Texas Motor Vehicle Code relating to operation of heavy and light motorized equipment. Operate equipment used in road construction and maintenance; service and make minor repairs on equipment; apply safety standards to prevent hazards; understand and follow instructions; tolerate outside working conditions, including exposure to adverse weather conditions; work effectively and cooperatively with co-workers; and maintain valid Texas driver's license applicable to job responsibilities.
