FM works behind the scenes to ensure the city's departments and agencies can function at their best. The FM Division staff is responsible for providing a full range of building services including plumbing, heating/cooling, electrical, painting, and maintenance of doors, windows, walls, ceilings, and floors, among other services. Through seven teams, FM is responsible for maintaining over 8,000,000 million square feet of buildings and structures in over 140 city owned and leased facilities, sites and structures. The Facilities Management Division within General Services is currently seeking multiple HVAC Mechanics to support and assist Shelter and Residential Support Team As an HVAC/Building Engineer, you will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing facility systems. This includes using automated control systems to manage electrical and mechanical building systems. You will handle daily operations and preventative maintenance on mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems, such as air handling units, domestic cool and hot water systems, sump and sewage systems, diesel generators, and fire protection systems. In addition, as the HVAC Mechanic you will: Installs, maintains, and repairs equipment and machinery which may include some fabrication Inspects buildings, grounds, and equipment for unsafe or malfunctioning systems and conditions Assists with installation and modification of building equipment systems Oversees or performs repair, testing, and troubleshooting of building equipment systems Evaluates and recommends equipment and service upgrades Assists in coordinating maintenance efforts with outside contractors and technicians for contracted work Orders parts and supplies as required and maintains stock and inventory control Maintains records and prepares reports, and estimates materials, labor, and equipment costs Observes all common safety practices Performs snow removal duties Location and Nature of Work Working on the Shelter and Residential Team is different from working in an office building environment. The facilities in which this team works are shelters and residential spaces for people experiencing homelessness. Examples include congregate shelters for men or women, micro/tiny home villages, and hotels and related structures that have been converted to dormitory-style living units. Team members may be stationed at a property or will be provided a vehicle to travel from property to property addressing maintenance needs. Staff on the Shelter and Residential Team will work in pairs for safety and efficiency. What You'll Bring HVAC/Building Engineers are the primary technical staff for facility maintenance, emergency maintenance, minor electrical and plumbing testing, and repairs in the facility. The ideal candidate will be proficient with Building Automation Systems/Direct Digital Control Systems. Overall competency with computers and associated business applications is highly desired. There will be daily interaction with tenants ranging from customers to employees of various Agencies across the City and County of Denver. As such having strong customer service and interpersonal skills will be crucial to success for this individual. One (1) year of journey-level HVAC experience maintaining, repairing, and constructing HVAC systems and equipment.

Education/Experience Equivalency:

A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.

License/Certifications:

This job requires driving. Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Possession of one of the following certifications: Refrigeration Operator, CFC (universal EPA), Heating and Ventilating Journeyman, Refrigeration Journeyman, Steamfitter Journeyman, or Stationary Engineer certificates issued by the City and County of Denver by the end of the probationary period.
