Job Overview:
Provides maintenance services for instrumentation and electrical (I&E) devices and process control systems (PCS). Services include troubleshooting, repairs, calibrating and installing such devices and systems; including electrical power, lighting and controls; electronics, pneumatic, and mechanical instrumentation.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Installs, repairs, and troubleshoots the instrumentation and electrical systems associated with the production unit process control equipment and supporting infrastructure. Performs routine installation, repair, and preventive maintenance on a wide variety of equipment used within a utility/chemical plant. Repairs and maintains process temperature/pressure transmitters, differential pressure transmitters, multivariable transmitters, magnetic flowmeters, turbine insertion flowmeters, and pneumatic control valves and actuators. Walks down Process and Instrumentation Diagram's (P&ID's) for PCS functionality; including comparing and recommending corrections to any discrepancies with equipment specifications, configuration data, interlock and alarm settings, graphics, instrumentation, electrical power, and control drawings, etc. Makes judgments relating to specific mechanical and electrical operating equipment and performs necessary physical tasks related to the maintenance of that equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Troubleshoots Allen Bradley PLC software/hardware (PLC5 to ControlLogix), Red Lion displays, RSView32 HMI applications, and other industrial control systems. Makes necessary calculations required for the calibration and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment controls. Performs maintenance activities on Continuing Emission Monitoring System (CEMS) and troubleshoots issues with the CEMS. Installs, maintains, tests, evaluates, and repairs various electrical components and systems including low voltage automation systems, medium voltage motor control circuits, and high voltage (< 15kV) power distribution systems. Comprehends mechanical/electrical schematics, blueprints, and/or operation manuals. Works on projects throughout the entire facility; running conduit, pulling wire, and connecting devices using lifts and ladders. Provides I&E support to unit engineering functions. Performs facilities maintenance as assigned. Creates work orders in the plant Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to rectify issues found in the field. Performs other duties as assigned.
Specific Skills:
Experience working with Allen-Bradley PLC control systems is preferred but other PLC systems will be considered. Equipment experience including Rosemount, Honeywell, and Endress+Hauser temperature and pressure transmitters, multivariable transmitters & flow meters, and magnetic flow meters totaling not less than 2 years. Experience troubleshooting instrumentation and control issues connected to Siemens PCS 7 is preferred; other DCS experience will be considered. Basic understanding of electrical and electronic instrumentation operating principles. Experience in safely working with the associated job hazards and using the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) on voltages up to 13.8 KVA. Working knowledge of electrical one-lines, electrical three-lines, electrical schematics, and electrical prints. Understanding of
NFPA 70E
Arc Flash Safety. Excellent organizational, time management, problem solving, and verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work with little or no direct supervision.
Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent is required; Associate degree in industrial instrumentation preferred.
Minimum Experience:
2 years of experience in an industrial setting.

N/A Physical Requirements Possess close visual acuity and visual acuity to perform activities such as machine operations and mechanical or skilled trades tasks, ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, repetitive motion, and exert up to 100lbs of force occasionally, 50lbs frequently, and 20lbs constantly. Working Conditions Subject to activities inside and outside, temperature levels below 32 degrees and above 100 degrees for more than one hour, noise levels where one may need to shout to be heard, vibration, hazards such as moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, oils, and other cutting fluids.
