ATTENDANCE COMMUNITY COORDINATOR
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Principal, the Community Coordinator will perform duties related to developing and improving community relations. The Community Coordinator will support the school in its efforts to increase and maintain communication between the school and our students, families, staff, and community partners and other community organizations and high schools and colleges. The Community Coordinator will similarly work to develop and sustain positive relations with other schools in the community and other organizations within the NYC Department of Education. The Community Coordinator will also work with local businesses, corporations and community-based organizations to solicit interest in supporting and/or providing sites for the school's fieldwork, internship, community service or community farming programs.Key Relationships:
Serve as a liaison between school administration and community groups by coordinating and facilitating communication between the school, staff, students, families, community organizations, businesses,government agencies and the communities that these vital organizations represent. Responsibilities Work closely with all school personnel regarding matters related to student attendance and welfare. Oversee the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date student attendance records, by distributing and collecting daily attendance scanning daily and weekly attendance on ATS. Compile and share the list of all absent students via The Attendance and Outreach Log document daily by 11:00 am. • Update attendance of students who are late by entering reversals on ATS by the end of the day. Coordinate and supervise various outreach programs between the school and the community. Run attendance reports daily and notify teachers/administrators of missing attendance reports Enter accurate attendance codes for absent students on ATS Prepare all necessary attendance reports. Contact parents of students with attendance issues. Conduct weekly attendance meetings. Set the agenda and keep accurate minutes of the meetings. Follow up on open 407s. Communicate with the attendance teacher regarding home visits and follow up. Prepare a variety of reports and written materials (e.g.perfect attendance, chronic absenteeism, standardized and special attendance reports, attendance letters to students and parents, etc.) for the purpose of conveying information regarding school and/or DOE activities and procedures. Maintain a variety of attendance records, schedules, and files (manual and computer) (e.g. contact and telephone logs, student attendance, medical/excuse notes, student sign-out sheets, etc.) for the purpose of documenting and/or providing reliable information. Perform enrollment and un-enrollment activities (e.g.assisting families in completing the necessary intake forms, updating students' biographical information, immunization, vision information as needed on ATS, prepare permanent student record and cumulative folders, request proof of enrollment for students who transfer or move, prepare discharge documentation and enter appropriate code on ATS, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance with legal, state or federal requirements. Follow-up with families of students with incomplete immunization records. Follow-up with immunization referrals to the school's Montefiore Clinic. Follow up with the District Health Director with regard to serology and immunity. Compile student records (e.g. birth certificates, transfers, immunizations, etc.). Maintain accurate records of student housing status. Update information on ATS as needed. Request and track cumulative records from sending schools. Communicate with parents, students, staff, etc. in person, by telephone, email, robocalls, or letter for the purpose of providing information on a variety of attendance and health related issues . Serve as a point person for ATS ensuring that data is correct and up-to-date. Facilitate students' working papers. Perform other duties as directed by the school or district administration.Minimum Qualification Requirements:
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or 2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or Community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or 3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above. Preferred Good written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish.. Ability to interact with people of all social and economic levels. Ability to work with students, teachers, and supervisors. Prior experience in school setting and interaction with students, parents, and school staff. Proficiency with ATS, Google Sheets, Google Docs and Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge of school program objectives. Strong literacy skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues when necessary.Work Schedule:
This is a 12 month, 35 hour per week annual assignment. Position will require flexibility with respect to hours in order to meet the needs of the school community, including evenings and weekends. Use of earned vacation and/or compensatory time is subject to approval of the school principal.Salary:
