JOB SUMMARY
Works under general supervision to perform intermediate coding activities in a manner that meets productivity and quality standards as established by the coding leadership. The duties will include but is not limited to the following: Perform reviews of coding denials of UTSW accounts utilizing ICD-10-CM, and CPT-4 code sets as indicated and according to coding team procedures. Perform basic to complex coding activities for E&M services, diagnostic studies, minor and major surgical procedures. Provide coding guidance, recommendations and coding justifications to resolve claim denials and rejections. Read and interpret payer EOBs, E&M notes, complex diagnostic study results, and minor/major surgical operative notes. Utilize coding resources, payer manuals and websites, payer medical policies to resolve basic to complex coding denials. Work From Home (WFH): This is primarily a WFH position. Applicants must live within the Greater D/FW area and be available to come to the office for meetings, etc., if required. Additional details shall be discussed as part of the interview process.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required Education High School Diploma Or equivalent and certification as a coder and Experience 3 years professional coding experience. and Licenses and Certifications (CPC)
CERT PROFESSIONAL CODER
Upon Hire or (CCA) Cert Coding Associate Upon Hire Preferred Experience Knowledge of Correct Coding Initiatives (CCI), Epic electronic health record systems and 3M coding software and Proficiency in EPIC is preferred
JOB DUTIES
Performs accurate and timely review of intermediate coding and abstracting of UTSW accounts utilizing ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM, and CPT-4 code sets as indicated and according to coding team procedures. Performs basic to intermediate coding activities in a manner that meets productivity and quality standards as established by the coding leadership. Ability to review and resolve front-end charge review coding edits. Maintains current understanding of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, disease processes, coding guidelines, and teaching physician documentation guidelines, and grows knowledge through participation in continuing education programs. May mentor the work of lower level designated coding employees to ensure quality of work and growth in knowledge and expertise. Assists in upholding coding team expectations of effective communications, including customer service standards, professionalism, operating procedures, processes, and other team strategies and goals. Assists in promoting a culture of support, continuous learning, and team work. Adheres to all UTSW and departmental policies and procedures to include the Remote Coding Agreement where applicable. Performs other duties as assigned.
