Job Title:
Insurance Coordinator Job Description Summary:
The Insurance Coordinator is responsible for the registration and insurance verification for patients. This role ensures compliance with third-party payer requirements and acts as a liaison between the practice and guarantors to ensure insurance accuracy.
Qualifications:
Ability to handle difficult patients/guarantors or situations in a calm, professional manner. Proven capability to perform multiple work tasks efficiently and effectively. High level of concentration and attention to detail at all times. Ability to work under pressure and maintain composure during stressful situations. Demonstrates dependability and flexibility in meeting the scheduling needs of the practice. Effective communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of medical terminology, billing, and coding. Demonstrated knowledge base and experience with third-party reimbursement and computer technology. Epic experience preferred. Knowledge of medical billing practices.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for the registration process and insurance verification for patients, ensuring accurate registration of insurance information. Responds to incoming calls requesting services and creates an accurate database for all patients utilizing Epic. Ensures complete collection of insurance coverage utilizing online verification technology. Discusses financial liability and schedules accordingly, in a confidential manner when indicated. Advises patients of self-pay and/or outstanding balances at the time of registration, collects full payment, or works out a payment plan. Monitors patient flow and attendance throughout the day, frequently checking schedules of providers. Answers telephones by the third ring, using department-accepted greeting and professional tone. Orients patients to essential program guidelines and expectations (e.g., cancellation and no-show policy, co-pays). Reviews Patient Demographic Sheets to ensure accuracy. Monitors Patient Work queues Enhances the patient experience in every interaction. Demonstrates professional courtesy in all interactions with patients, family, and coworkers. Answers all questions in a polite, professional manner or finds someone who can answer the question. Reports issues/concerns using the chain of command. Utilizes critical thinking and problem-solving in day-to-day operations as well as in emergent situations. Communicates appropriately and effectively following the chain of command. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of medical billing practices and insurance policies. Coordinates with billing departments to resolve any discrepancies in patient accounts. Assists in the preparation and submission of insurance claims as needed. Provides training and support to staff on insurance verification and billing procedures. Maintains updated information on insurance payors accepted by the practice. Provides payor updates to billing staff and patient service representatives.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum Work Experience:
Two (2) years of business/billing office experience in a pediatric healthcare environment preferred. Required knowledge of Insurance Verification. Demonstrates effective communication skills and proven organizational and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of medical terminology and Epic. Demonstrated knowledge base and experience with third-party payors. Knowledge of medical billing practices.
