This role involves performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, and ensuring that refrigeration units are operating efficiently and safely. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.
Key Responsibilities:
Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, and other mechanical components of Transport Refrigeration Units. Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair refrigeration units, including electrical and electronic control systems, compressors, evaporators, and condensers. Perform routine maintenance on trucks and refrigeration units, such as oil changes, filter replacements, and system checks. Conduct preventative maintenance to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of fleet vehicles and refrigeration units. Utilize diagnostic tools and software to identify faults and determine necessary repairs. Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work performed, including parts used and labor time. Ensure all repairs and maintenance are completed in compliance with company standards, manufacturer guidelines, and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with the fleet management team to prioritize repairs and ensure timely service of vehicles. Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety protocols and procedures. Stay current with industry trends, technology advancements, and best practices in diesel and refrigeration unit maintenance.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in diesel mechanics or refrigeration preferred. 3+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic, with a focus on Transport Refrigeration Units or related equipment. Certification in refrigeration systems, such as EPA Section 608/609 certification, is highly desirable. Proficient in using diagnostic tools and software for diesel engines and refrigeration units. Strong understanding of diesel engine mechanics, refrigeration systems, and electrical troubleshooting. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Strong communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Physical ability to lift heavy parts and equipment, work in various positions, and operate machinery safely. Valid driver's license; CDL preferred but not required.
