Human Resources Generalist United Cerebral Palsy of Nevada 740 Freeport Boulevard, Sparks, NV 89431
Human Resources Generalist Position Summary:
The Human Resources Generalist will facilitate all human resource functions on a professional level. The person in this role will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all state and federal employment laws, providing employee relations guidance and support to supervisors, fostering a healthy workplace culture, developing positive working relationships with employees, and maintaining updated, relevant, and functional human resources policies and procedures. The Human Resources Generalist must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with UCP employees, community partners, people receiving services, and other stakeholders. This position requires exceptional organizational, analytical, and time management skills with a strong attention to detail. The person in this role should be a self-starter who works well with a close team and can perform under pressure.
Essential Functions:
All duties are completed under the direct supervision of the CEO. Some duties of the Human Resources Generalist may include, but are not limited to: Recruitment
  • Assessing staffing needs in collaboration with company leadership and hiring managers, posting and monitoring recruitment for open positions online, screening candidates by reviewing resumes, conducting phone interviews and organizing/participating in in-person interviews and selection with hiring managers. Orientation
  • Conducting all new hire orientations, including reviewing company policies with new employees, gathering and verifying I-9 documentation, arranging fingerprinting and submitting background checks, updating employee files and trackers, scheduling new employees for CPR training, conducting initial safety training walkthroughs, and answering questions. Employee Relations
  • Builds rapport and an environment of trust with employees at all levels of the organization, assists in the creation and implementation of employee training and performance building practices, and participates in employee disciplinary actions including, but not limited to, written and verbal warnings, performance improvement plans, and terminations. Human Resources Administrative Tasks
  • Administers the worker compensation program including preparing and filing claims and working with departments assigning light duty work; ensures employee change forms are created and received, as needed; collaborates with the Finance Manager to ensure employee's pay, employment, and contact information is correctly entered into payroll system and kept up-to-date; maintains all annual/biannual/semiannual employee records, including First Aid/CPR, Hep B vaccine, driving records, Medicaid exclusion and OIG programs, and background checks; creates and maintains accurate and up-to-date employee files.
Safety and Compliance
  • Formulates new programs and policies to enhance employee safety, including implementation of safety policies, manuals and other communications in conformance with state and federal agency regulation or accreditation entities; leads monthly safety meetings and manages the safety committee; facilitates safety inspections of all UCP facilities by any state or federal agency as required; collaborates with other departments to direct compliance issues to appropriate existing channels for investigation and resolution; ensures compliance with all labor laws and regulations; and ensures compliance with state requirements for employees and organizational employment practices for contract service providers.
Benefits Administration
  • Assesses and Manages health, dental, vision, life, and AD&D insurance and 401k program for all eligible employees in collaboration with brokers and provider representatives; takes the lead in designing, implementing, and managing employee appreciation events and practices; works with the C.E.O. to continually improve employee satisfaction and enhance employee engagement. Policies and Procedures
  • Develops and reviews/updates Standards of Conduct and employee policies and procedures annually and as needed to ensure continuing currency and relevance in providing guidance to management and employees
  • to include annual updates to the employee handbook. Other related duties as required. Required Qualifications
  • Working knowledge, understanding, and application of Human Resources principles, practices and procedures, including employment laws and regulations.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a human resources role with progressive levels of responsibility AND a Bachelors degree in Human Resources; OR a minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience in a human resources role with progressive levels of responsibility.
  • Knowledge and skills in office computers and software applications (MS Office, email, internet, etc.)
  • Must be 18 years of age with a valid photo ID and proof of eligibility to work in the United States
  • Must have reliable method of travel to work sites.
  • Must demonstrate a desire to work with people with disabilities, and a willingness to learn.
  • Must have the ability to lift objects weighing 25
  • 75 pounds, with assistance, with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Ability to be punctual and maintain regular attendance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with people with disabilities
  • Nonprofit experience
  • Human Resources certification such as SHRM-CP or
HRCI PHR
  • Experience/knowledge of requirements for contract service providers through Sierra Regional Center, Rural Regional Center, or a similar entity.

    $52,000
  • $57,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications
  • Shift hours are typically Monday
  • Friday, 9:00 am to 5:30 pm including a 30-minute unpaid lunch period
  • some flexibility for start and end times within hours of operation.
  • FBI Criminal Background Check (A list of disqualifying convictions is available upon request. Paid for by UCP)
  • Please be prepared to provide at least three references, two of which should be professional references
