Phifer Incorporated has an opening in their Tuscaloosa Warehouse for a Local Truck Driver/ Truck Loader position on 3 pm-11 pm shift. The Local Driver/Designated Truck Loader position in Warehouse Operations will process incoming and outgoing shipments of materials and drive a gasoline or diesel-powered tractor-trailer combination usually short distances, to transport and deliver products. This includes but does not limit duties to loading or unloading loose or packaged materials on pallets, bins, or any other form of shipping method. The Designated Truck Loader must also insure materials reach their final destination in good condition. The Local driver responsibilities will be driving a tractor-trailer combination to and from our Fayette facility and long haul trips as needed.
MINIMUM JOB SPECIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a class A Commercial Driver's License Must possess a safe driving record. Must pass Department of Transportation physical examination. Must be at least 25 years of age. Must pass driving test. Negative DOT pre-employment drug test. Must complete Employer Accident and drug/alcohol testing history. Driving Record showing medical certification status
ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Must have a minimum of six months experience in driving a diesel tractor with trailer. Prefer six months previous work experience in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment. Prefer material handling equipment experience. Must have an acceptable pre-employment screening program PSP report.
ACCEPTABLE EDUCATION
Prefer high school diploma or GED Assess on the TABE in reading and mathematics at an 8th grade equivalency or higher Or have appropriate score based on WorkKeys Profile Hourly pay is $24.05.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Will perform lift truck inspections and refueling tasks correctly utilizing a pre-start inspection sheet Will correctly interpret and comply with written and verbal instructions on what to load and in what order the material or drops need to be loaded Will correctly pull / pick material from inventory using material handling equipment by reading a delivery order sheet or verbal instructions Will scan delivery order information into the SAP system by scanning material information with a hand held scanner Will verify material pulled / picked utilizing the SAP system by scanning material information with a hand held scanner Will package material for shipment based on delivery order sheet or verbal instructions by shrink-wrapping or banding material if required. Will stage order correctly by utilizing material handling equipment Will secure the loaded material with one or more methods including but not limited to air bags, straps, wooden load locks or metal bracing materials. Will determine truckloads based on material and or staging sheets and communicate this information to supervisor or dispatcher Will verify and confirm orders are loaded by checking staging locations to make sure all material has been accounted for Will load material, as it becomes available using PIT seal sheets as required Will drive truck to destination, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and skill in maneuvering vehicle in difficult situations, such as narrow passageways. Will maneuver truck into loading or unloading position, following signals from loading crew as needed Will maintain driver log according to I.C.C. regulations Will inspect truck before, during, and after trips and submit reports indicating truck condition Will obtain shipping bills of lading and necessary signatures and return completed paperwork to shipping office Will load or unload or assist in loading and unloading of truck Will perform miscellaneous service duties such as checking on a daily basis oil, water, gasoline or diesel fuel, and air in tires Will report any maintenance malfunctions to supervisor Will chock rear wheels of truck or trailer before any unloading takes place Will weigh trailer when necessary Will make daily trips to Phifer Fayette and any other in-state deliveries Will occasionally make long haul trips
