Job Description
Summary of Position:
This position is responsible for providing all functions of a medical assistant in a family medicine clinic. The Medical Assistant is responsible for performing the tasks necessary to begin and complete the medical visit including gathering specimens, administering injections, cleaning and sterilizing instruments, documenting in patient's chart, and answering clinical questions. The ideal candidate will model a mission centered service attitude, be professional and courteous and provide excellent customer service experience to all who enter the clinic.Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Prepares patients ages newborn to geriatric for examination, including vital signs, relevant history, medication reconciliation, etc. Administers vaccines and injections to both pediatric and adult patients. Cleans and sterilize instruments for minor procedures. Sets up for minor procedures (e.g., IUD insertions/removals, Nexplanon insertions/removals, suture removal, etc.) Performs venipuncture and fingerstick phlebotomy, throat cultures, urinalysis, EKG's, and other laboratory procedures as directed. Performs in house lab tests and document in EHR appropriately. Follows up with lab results per provider recommendations. Screens phone calls for appropriate referral/triage and documents accordingly.Skills and Requirements:
Ability to maintain confidentiality at all levels. Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision. Ability to prevent, calm, and/or defuse irate patients and guests while working with them to identify concerns and properly address their needs. Ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and tact while multi-tasking, organizing and performing regular duties. Able to work well with team members and volunteers in all departments within ICH and the public at large. Ability to communicate clearly with patients, staff and guests. Able to time manage effectively to accomplish daily tasks. Ability to maintain records accurately and document test results accurately. Knowledge of medical assistant scope of practice to assist in assessing patient needs and administering and evaluating patient care. High degree of attention to detail when completing chart updates and/or reviewing documentation. Ability to have a professional attitude in various situations. Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent. Formal education as a Medical Assistant is required. Bilingual in Spanish and English required.Physical And Equipment Requirements:
Normal work environment is an office in a primary care clinical setting, which involves some physical risks requiring basic safety precautions. This position routinely requires sitting, standing, bending/stooping, operating a computer for extended periods, and lifting or carrying objects up to 25 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. This position requires ability to hear routine conversations and to have the ability to comprehend both oral and written communications. Standard office equipment including computer, copier, fax and telephones, and cell phones. Must be able to provide personal transportation to multiple meetings offsite from ICH.Job Type:
