The Referral Coordinator is responsible for daily centralized scheduling activities including, but not limited to, administrative requirements needed to obtain pre-authorization for medical specialty visits referred by a physician, customer service, patient scheduling, telephone triage, fielding patient referral and billing questions, filing, faxing, sending medical records and timely and accurate data entry into multiple computer systems and logs. Acts as a liaison between the referring physician, technical staff, patient and insurance companies. Verifies that the exam being requested is appropriate for the diagnosis code identified. Verifies insurance coverage, obtains authorization for services and sets up appointments with referred physicians. Acts as back up during absence of other Centralized Scheduling staff. Education High school diploma/equivalent. Prior experience/training in medical terminology or diagnostic services strongly desired. Experience Minimum of three years' experience in a medical facility strongly desired. Education may be considered in lieu of required experience. Prior work experience with CPT and ICD-10 coding, third-party payers, pre-authorization requirements and Meditech preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology, diagnostic imaging procedures preferred. Experience in working successfully with customers in stressful situations and in working as a member of a team. Licensure/Credentials Medical Assistant Certificate preferred. UnionUFCW 3000
