Only City of Louisville employees will be considered. The City of Louisville is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented and collaborative Accounting Technician II or III / Accounts Payable to come join our Finance Team! The Accounting Technician II or III / Accounts Payable is under the direction of the Accounting Manager, this role is responsible for performing standard and complex accounting work pertaining to Accounts Payable and Procurement and related administrative and financial functions. Examples of Duties Reviews and verifies payment requests, and coordinates with preparers and approvers, to ensure proper account, proper approval, and accuracy of payment information. Prepare allocation worksheets in Microsoft Excel for utilities, phones, copiers, and other items as necessary. Review budget availability and policy compliance for all purchase requisitions and reports issues to Finance Director and other Departments. Review invoices, and coordinates with preparers and approvers, to ensure compliance with City policies; input invoices into accounts payable module. Prepares weekly disbursement list and posts to Department Website within established deadlines. Review certain general ledger account balances; reconcile and present appropriate adjustments. Maintain and audit vendor list and tax information; prepare and issue 1099s. Monitor open purchase orders to ensure they are closed in a timely manner. Reconcile open purchase order at year-end and prepare reports for Finance Director. Assist the Senior Accountant with documentation for recording additions and deletions of fixed assets, as necessary. Prepare and distribute ad hoc accounts payable related reports as requested or as necessary. Reconcile accounts payable balances and adjusts accounts payable balance, and other balances, as necessary. Administer City-wide purchase cards and reconciles purchase card statements. Review all procurement card transactions for compliance with City policies. Report any non-compliance to card holder and to Finance Director. Coordinate enrollment into the City-wide Amazon Business program as an Administrator. Serve as Enterprise Resource Planning system (MUNIS) use resource for purchasing, accounts payable, and P-Card transactions. Coordinate purchasing of all office, printing, and non-specialized supplies for Finance Department. Assist with annual year-end audit by researching source documents, producing reports, and creating workpapers
General Qualifications General Qualifications:
Accounting Tech II - $49,628 to $64,521 High school degree or equivalent An Associate's Degree is preferred 2 years' bookkeeping or accounting experience; with some experience working in a computerized accounting system and Excel software Municipal or local government experience preferred Accounting Tech III - $54,579 to $70,969 Two-year associate degree in accounting or related business field from an accredited college/university required , or at least 4 years of work-related bookkeeping experience. Minimum of two years' experience with computerized accounting systems is required or any equivalent combination of acceptable training, education, and experience. Municipal experience with basic knowledge of government policies, practices, and procedures related to accounts payable preferred. Excellent customer service and communication skills. A combination of education, training, and experience may be considered for both levels.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the standard bookkeeping and accounting procedures and the principles of accounts payable. Knowledge of the rules and regulations controlling budgetary, fiscal record keeping, and accounts payable procedures. Knowledge of office management methods and practices. Skill in the use of a personal computer, calculator, and printers. Ability to exercise independent judgment. Ability to implement, understand and enforce policies and procedures. Ability to handle and maintain confidentiality of information. Ability to make mathematical computations rapidly and accurately. Ability to prepare complete and accurate accounting reports and statements. Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
