Job Description
A/V System Support:
Analyze functional and performance issues associated with use of A/V technology, collaborate with peers on possible solutions and implement corrective actions in a timely manner. Manage deployment of systems for classroom technologies, such as projectors, screens, and lecture capture equipment. Manage deployment of systems for conference room technologies, such as projectors, displays, and video conferencing equipment. Perform design reviews for in-house and departmental projects. Design audiovisual systems for classroom implementation. Program audio Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) as needed for classroom and campus operation.A/V Service Management:
Research and determine trends in A/V technology and integrate appropriately to ensure the College's excellence in instructional, conference, and collaboration spaces. Manage best practice processes for the regular maintenance, replacement, upgrade and standardization of A/V technology across the College. Coordinating documentation and training for units, individual users, and IT staff on the use of A/V technology. As needed, supervise student/hourly employees, as related to project implementation, etc.; may also serve as a mentor/coach to junior staff. Partner with relevant 3rd party vendors to maintain, troubleshoot and participate in problem-solving A/V hardware and software issues. Use technical skills to ensure system diagnostics, troubleshoot, and configure and route IP-based ethernet and fiber optic networks for digital signal distribution.A/V Design and Project Management:
Manage a diverse portfolio of multiple A/V projects and ensure timely delivery of the end product. Design standard A/V systems and services where practical and work to adapt such services to the unique needs of the unit where necessary. Set up and deploy video cameras, audio equipment, equipment layouts and wiring schematics, and manage troubleshooting of A/V and networking equipment.Organizational Support:
Partner with Engineering IT user support staff on the support of A/V technology and serve as their escalation path. Work with Engineering IT and departmental staff to provide A/V support for occasional high-profile events, which may occur outside business hours. Act as a technical and institutional resource for other A/V Specialists, providing training and advice as needed. Interact with various teams within Engineering IT Shared Services to ensure outstanding service delivery to the end-users.Customer Service and Support:
Promote and delivering excellent customer service by responding to requests in person, on the phone, or via email in a timely, polite, and professional manner. Actively maintain relationships with user community, proactively communicate relevant information, and stay informed of user's needs and initiatives. Consult with units within the College on the design, purchase and installation of A/V technology for instructional, conference, and collaboration spaces. Set and manage the expectations of customers; act as an advocate for Engineering clients in service planning and deployment across the organization; and resolve customer satisfaction issues. Occasionally Specialty Factors High School Graduation or equivalent Six (6) years of work experience in IT‐related functions such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field. College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline may be substituted as follows: 30 semester hours equals one (1) year, Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen (18) months, 90 semester hours equals two (2) years, Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years). Demonstrated experience with AV system design like configuration or implementation, (e.g., audio DSPs, video distribution, and control systems.) Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting and deploying video conferencing or lecture capture systems (e.g., Kaltura, Extron, Zoom, Microsoft Teams Rooms, or Webex). Proficiency in A/V signal flow, routing, and processing, including HDMI, HDBaseT, SDI, Dante, AV-over-IP, and audio DSP programming. Experience with control system programming or scripting (e.g., Extron, AMX, or Crestron). Familiarity with AV-over-IP technologies, networking concepts (VLANs, QoS, multicast streaming), and structured cabling. Experience in technology at an institution of highercation or equivalent. Experience with enterprise IT tools such as endpoint management, system imaging, and centralized configuration solutions. Experience with tools, concepts, and resources associated with project management and related activities. Industry recognized certification in audio-visual systems or project management (Info COMM CTS or PMI CAPM, etc.). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Experience in a technical customer support role, troubleshooting AV/IT issues in a professional environment. Ability to diagnose and resolve A/V system issues, including hardware, software, and network-related troubleshooting. Strong understanding of A/V rack building, cable management, and structured wiring best practices. Knowledge in the application of IT security concepts. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Ability to lead groups of peers in cross-functional groups assigned to tasks or project work.APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
This is a full-time Civil Service IT Technical Associate position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. The budgeted salary range for this position is $77,000- $88,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. This position is primarily on-site, at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus, with the potential to do some hybrid work as needed per the University's Workplace Flexibility policy.
