This role involves performing preventative maintenance, diagnosing system failures, and ensuring optimal functionality of refrigeration components such as evaporators, condensers, pumps, and compressors. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain and troubleshoot ammonia refrigeration systems, including compressors, condensers, pumps, vessels, purgers, evaporators, and control/isolation valves.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on refrigeration equipment and mechanical devices.
  • Install, repair, and maintain all devices related to the ammonia refrigeration system.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with refrigeration systems, identifying root causes and implementing timely solutions.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of electrical systems related to refrigeration equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety protocols related to ammonia handling, ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to emergency response procedures

regulations.
  • Accurately complete required documentation, including refrigeration management change forms, daily inspection and preventive maintenance logs, work orders, and incident reports.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as facilities and operations, to support overall organizational goals and objectives.
  • Stay updated on technologies and best practices in refrigeration systems, recommending improvements and innovations to enhance efficiency and performance.
  • Respond promptly to emergency service calls concerning refrigeration-controlled facilities.
  • All other relevant tasks as required, including training.
EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
  • RETA certification required within three years of employment.
  • Minimum of three (3) years in industrial refrigeration maintenance and repair
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Strong mechanical and technical knowledge of refrigeration principles, including compressors, condensers, and evaporative cooling systems.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and diagnosing issues with refrigeration equipment, including compressors, evaporators, condensers, and controls.
  • Familiarity with refrigeration tools and equipment, such as pressure gauges, thermometers, and leak detectors.
  • Basic knowledge of local building codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs and compliance schematics.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to safely and efficiently operate various types of Material Handling Equipment.
  • Detail-oriented approach with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Flexibility to work any/all shifts.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance and participate in the weekend on-call rotation schedule as required.
  • Ability to pass a pulmonary breathing test.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb ladders while maintaining stability and balance. The position requires comfort and proficiency in working at heights (scissor lift).
  • Work in a hot environment (outdoor and warehouse).
Work in cold and extremely cold environments for extended periods (freezer and cold storage facilities).
