The Opportunity WSDOT is currently seeking motivated and hardworking individual to fill the role of Equipment Technician 3 position in Ephrata/Electric City. An Equipment Technician 3 must openly support and be involved in the WSDOT Safety program. This position will perform journey level inspections, diagnose, and make major and minor repairs and perform preventative maintenance on all types of vehicles and equipment used in highway and other jobs performed by the WSDOT. Unusual problems that may occur are brought to a higher level (Technician Lead or Supervisor) with probable solutions and outcomes. May lead or train Equipment Technician 2 level. This position supports the mission of the agency by maintaining the equipment and vehicles used by WSDOT staff to keep roadways safe for travel. What to Expect This position will perform preventative maintenance, diagnoses, repair and maintain all types of equipment used in the maintenance and construction of roadways. They will also troubleshoot and repair all electrical/electronic systems, automotive and specialized. Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you will: Maintain and repair all types of diesel, gasoline, electric and alternative fuel type of motors or engines to maintain and restore to reliable condition. Maintain, repair, trouble shoot, all types of gear boxes. Maintain, various braking systems, trouble shoot, repair brake systems of all types. Repair various parts and components used in light and heavy equipment. Perform diagnostic and repair work on various snow and ice removal equipment. Maintain re-fueling sites. Repair and replace components related to electronic fuel injection, automotive (light & heavy) computer controls, ignition, anti-lock brakes, sequential sign boards, speed trailers, auto flaggers and various other electronic systems. Install & maintain safety lighting, hydraulic systems, hitches, reinforce bumpers, brackets, guards. Repair & fabrication on snowplows, snow blowers, graders, excavators, sweepers, various and other highway, and construction equipment. Installs components & equipment, protects equipment from corrosion damage, washes & cleans equipment. Qualifications To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required: Three (3) years of experience performing preventative maintenance and repairs assisting a journey-level mechanic. OR Journey-level standing as a heavy equipment mechanic, demonstrated by completion of a recognized apprenticeship, or by journey-level standing as recognized by a labor union. OR One (1) year of experience as a journey-level mechanic maintaining and repairing heavy-duty equipment. Ability to maintain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), (without restrictions) with endorsement N and without Air Brake restriction (within 12 months of hire) WSDOT will assist in training for licensing requirement. It is preferred that qualified candidates also have: High School Diploma or GED. Successful completion of vocational technical training in heavy equipment, light vehicles and/or industrial/commercial equipment repair, including welding/fabrication. ASE certifications in Automotive and/or Heavy-duty equipment. DOT brake certifications. A/C certification. Class B with "N" and Air Brake endorsements, no automatic transmission restriction.
