Under the supervision of the shop foreman, the technician is responsible for repairing and maintaining all fire apparatus, vehicles, small engines, and other equipment owned and operated by the Fire District. The technician is also responsible for keeping and maintaining a complete set of records and files associated with the duties. The technician must take part in the daily cleaning of the workspace and repair facility. The technician may act as an operator of emergency apparatus and equipment as directed. Primary Functions Completing a diagnosis of a problem and then repairing and/or overseeing the repair of fire apparatus, staff, and other vehicles, small engines, and other equipment owned and operated by the Fire District. Responsible for acquiring and maintaining all the necessary tools and equipment to adequately perform the duties described. With guidance from the Shop Foreman, plan the systematic, ongoing maintenance of all fire apparatus, staff, and other vehicles to maintain response availability. Logs work performed on district vehicles and equipment in the fleet management software system. Drives motor vehicles safely and lawfully in emergency and non-emergency situations. May act as the operator of emergency equipment and apparatus when needed/directed by supervisory personnel. Participate in apparatus committees to gain knowledge of the process. Work with the shop foreman or her/his designee on ordering parts. May be required to assist with the training of newly hired employees. Be on-call and respond, as required, to emergency calls and repairs on nights, weekends, and holidays. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic mechanical procedures and practices Mechanical tools and equipment necessary in repairing fire and emergency apparatus and related equipment. Applicable procedures and techniques for repairing and maintaining small engines, vehicles, fire apparatus, and equipment owned and operated by the Fire District. (EVT I-III) Applicable N.F.P.A. and DOT Standards and EPA requirements for safety inspections, repairs, and modifications to vehicles and fire apparatus. Operating, testing, and servicing all portable fire service tools and equipment, including hydraulic and high-pressure tools. Oxyacetylene, stick (SMA), and wire feed (GMA & FCA) weld on various types of metal and understand compatible and non-compatible metals. Occupational hazards and standard safety precautions. Electrical systems and components and the proper separation, loading, and protective systems. Skill in Basic vehicle repair and maintenance Operating all vehicles and fire apparatus within the fire department. General body painting and repairs. Reading shop manuals, schematics, and multiple software systems (DDEC, Cummins INSITE, Allison Transmissions, Meritor Braking Systems, Weldon Multiplexing, and more) used to properly diagnose fire and emergency apparatus and related equipment problems. Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interactions with coworkers, supervisors, the public, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and receive work direction. Ability to Maintain all certifications and licenses applicable to the position. Maintain daily activity records and reports. Operate and maintain all equipment, vehicles, and apparatus owned by the Fire District. Operate various software programs used by the Fire District, including but not limited to the Microsoft Office 365 suite. Education/Experience High school diploma or GED required. Associate degree in a related field desired. (Entry Level) - Experience as a mechanic working with diesel and gasoline engines in a formal shop setting. (EVT I-III) - At least three (3) years experience as a mechanic working with diesel and gasoline engines in a formal shop setting. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. Possess a personal hand-tool set sufficient to perform duties.
Possess and maintain:
General Licensing/Certification Requirements Possess and maintain a valid, clear, and unrestricted Colorado driver's license. ASE and EVT certifications for level I Technician are required within 1 year of hire. ASE and EVT certifications for level II Technician are required within 18 months of achieving level I Technician. ASE and EVT certifications for level III Technician are required within 18 months of achieving level II Technician. Possess and maintain CPR certification or the ability to obtain it within 12 months of hire.
Entry Level Technician Requirements:
Clear and unrestricted Colorado Driver's license. High school diploma or GED. 18 years of age or older. Vocational diploma, degree, or certificate from a verifiable automotive/heavy truck repair and maintenance training program or proof of current enrollment in a program. Experience as a mechanic working with diesel and gasoline engines in a formal shop setting. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. Career Progression from

This also includes climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
Very Heavy Work:
