POSITION SUMMARY
The Quality Assurance Technician (QA Tech) assists & supports the Food Safety & Quality manager in building, maintaining, and improving our Food Safety and Quality programs. This includes completing regular tests, forms & logs, using equipment to analyze products, and performing validation & verification procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
(including but not limited to): Assist Food Safety & Quality Manager in maintaining our food safety and quality documentation organization and files. Ensure adherence to good manufacturing practices (GMP's), food safety, Safe Quality Food (SQF) guidelines and product quality standards. Responsible for sampling, testing and documentation of the Quality Management Systems including procedures, records, GMP's and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP). Responsible for performing sanitation verification and ATP testing on equipment and other areas of the plant required to determine cleaning effectiveness. Ensure the correct specifications for products are met during processing and production. Investigate root causes to customer complaints and strives to reduce/resolve issues. Collect product samples for Product Development, QA retains and laboratory testing. Calibrate and verify measurement instruments to confirm they function properly. Perform inspections on equipment and machinery to check for any possible risks to product safety and reports any findings to management for prompt resolution. Assist with the hold, reject and release program for both raw materials and finished product. Perform routine Food Safety & Quality checks and tests: Sanitizer Validation, pH Calibration, Metal Detection Log, Room temperature logs, Pre-Op checklist, Thermometer calibration log, Salt Meter Calibration, etc.
REQUIREMENTS
Work closely with Food Safety & Quality Manager Ability to follow all written and verbal instructions. Strong communication skills required to interact and work with other departments. Work efficiently and manage time effectively. Strong attention to detail Able to work independently with little to no supervision Self-motivated with proven leadership skills Demonstrates a positive and professional attitude and willing to work as part of a team.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position works in both an office environment and on the production floor. The role routinely uses office equipment (e.g. computer, phone, photocopier) as well as a limited variety of lab and calibration equipment (e.g. pH meter, salt meter, calibrated thermometers, etc.). All required personal protective equipment (PPE) for plant operational safety is expected to be used. Position requires ability to communicate and work well with peers.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or GED, some College preferred Proficient in understanding both written and verbal English Preference for candidates with Bilingual (ENG/SPA) communication skills Basic understanding of Food Safety & Quality Regularly required lift up to 20 pounds. Periodically required to stand and walk and reach with hand and arms. Use a computer keyboard and monitor up to 50% of the time. Position will require spending limited amounts of time in the cold storage sections of the facility pulling samples or performing studies.
