Open until filled Police Officer Minimum Qualifications Must possess a valid Ohio Driver's License. High school diploma or equivalent. Must be at least 21 years of age. United States citizen. Criminal record free of felony convictions or other crimes of aggression or violence. A driving record that qualifies the candidate to be insurable and to remain insurable under the Township's vehicle insurance policy as deemed by the Township, and have an acceptable driving record. 3Tracks:
Basic Ohio Police Office Training Academy with current OPOTC certification required, or, currently enrolled in a police academy program. BPD will also hire a candidate and send you through an Academy. Favorable employment history. Overview Brimfield Township, Ohio is a strategically located growing community of 14,000+ residents. Situated in southwestern Portage County with direct highway access to I-76, it is the home of Carter Lumber, Newell Rubbermaid and Kenda Tire, and several other commercial and industrial businesses that have helped develop the community and make Brimfield one of the faster growing communities in Portage County in recent years. The Township continues to experience growth, with significant retail/commercial growth in The Marketplace at Maplecrest and The Cascades of Brimfield, as well as continued residential growth. Brimfield Township offers easy access to major urban markets with nearby Kent State University on our border, and a quiet drive in the country is only minutes away. Police Department The Brimfield Police Department is a twenty-four hour, seven-day a week (24/7) operation providing one of the most indispensable functions to our community: Professional police services. The Department is allotted 20 Officers and 3 Records/Administrative clerks, as well as police auxiliary staff. Our officers work a 4-10 schedule (4 days on / 3 days off). With computer aided dispatch (CAD) provided through Kent State University PD and a cruiser fleet equipped with in-car wireless video systems, mobile wireless laptop computers, body cameras for our officers, a UAV-Drone program and Flock Safety Automated License Plate Readers (ALPR's), our Department continues to strive to incorporate better technology to make the job of public safety more efficient. The backbone of our Department is our personnel - proudly serving our Brimfield community. BPD Officers contribute to the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), and all full-time Patrol Officer benefits and compensation are outlined within the current collective bargaining agreement. Major Duties - Brimfield Police Officers Handling calls for service, patrolling to deter and detect crime, investigating complaints, interviewing victims and witnesses, citing and arresting law violators, protecting people and property, securing prisoners, preparing written reports, use of computers, and testifying in court are some of our core responsibilities. In addition, community policing/community relations is a major component of our service oriented mission here at BPD. Our officers actively engage with our community, and maintain a presence at various community functions and events representing our police department. The Brimfield Police Department also provides opportunity to progress to various assignments as organizational needs arise, such as Metro SWAT, D.A.R.E, School Resource Officer (SRO), K-9, Investigations, Crisis Intervention (CIT), serving as a Training Instructor, Drone-UAV Pilot, Field Training Officer (FTO), or Crime Prevention Specialist (CPS).
