Job Title:
Medical Assistant Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our team and help ensure smooth customer flow throughout our clinic. In this role, you will assist healthcare providers with the management and treatment of patients from diverse backgrounds, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. The Medical Assistant will focus on collaborative, supportive tasks in accordance with the Medical Assistant scope of practice, under the direction of the Supervising Nurse and Provider, as defined by the Minnesota Board of Nursing and Minnesota Board of Medical Practice. Communication and coordination with the healthcare team are essential to ensure excellent patient care and smooth clinic operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Care:
Perform clinical and clerical tasks to support efficient clinic operations, including standard rooming processes, administering immunizations, injections, and medications as directed by the provider, and collecting laboratory specimens as needed. Depending on clinic specialty and location, additional duties may include: Providing telephone support and facilitating communication between patients and providers. Assisting with prescription refills. Performing x-ray duties (if x-ray operator exam is passed). Conducting phlebotomy duties. Performing in-clinic laboratory tests.
Clinic Support:
Assist with front desk or check-in duties as needed. Order and stock supplies to ensure clinic operations run smoothly. Assist with prior authorization processes.
Additional Duties:
Demonstrate proficiency in all skills outlined in the Medical Assistant scope of practice. Maintain and improve skill proficiency, including the adoption of new skills as outlined by clinic needs. Accept and perform other duties as assigned to help meet organizational goals. Take direction from the Physician, Provider, Registered Nurse, Clinic Supervisor, and Clinic Manager.
Compliance:
Follow principles outlined in the Corporate Code of Conduct. Ensure patient and team member privacy is maintained and only access confidential information when necessary for job duties. Report any violations or concerns to the supervisor or Corporate Compliance Officer. Comply with all legal, regulatory, and accrediting requirements related to the Medical Assistant role.
Qualifications:
Education & Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program. Medical Assistant certification (required). Completion of a registration program from a national health services organization (e.g., American Medical Technologists), with successful completion of the credentialing exam. BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (required).
Experience:
Previous experience in a clinical setting is required. Experience in Occupational Medicine is preferred. Must pass or be willing to take the x-ray operator exam (if required by clinic location).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently. Proficient in using computer software applications. Must be able to travel to various local worksites, specifically for Occupational Medicine.
