Hire Job Summary:
The Remote Ortho/Neuro Coder (Denial Resolution Specialist) focuses on identifying, analyzing, and resolving coding-related claim denials for orthopedic and/or neurology specialties. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS coding guidelines and is skilled in recognizing patterns in denials to recommend and implement corrective actions.
Job Responsibilities:
Applies CPT-4, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS and modifiers following coding guidelines. Review denied claims related to orthopedic or neurology services to determine root cause and appropriate corrective actions. Apply accurate CPT, ICD-10, and modifier coding for professional and/or facility claims based on medical documentation. Collaborate with billing, clinical, and revenue cycle teams to resolve coding-related denials and rebill claims as necessary. Identify denial trends and provide actionable insights to reduce future denials. Provide feedback and education to providers on documentation improvement to support accurate coding and billing. Participate in regular audits to ensure ongoing coding accuracy and compliance with payer guidelines. Serve as a subject matter expert on coding for orthopedic and neurology services. Maintain current knowledge of coding guidelines, payer policies, and industry changes. Assist in developing and implementing coding policies and best practices to prevent denials. Prepare regular reports on denial volumes, causes, and resolutions for leadership review.
Minimum Qualifications:
Active and verifiable CPC, CCS, RHIT, RHIA, or CCS-P is required Certified General Surgery Coder (CGSC) or Certified Ophthalmology Coder (COPC) certification is highly preferred Minimum of 3 years of coding experience in orthopedics and/or neurology, with at least 1 year focused on denial resolution Strong understanding of coding guidelines, NCCI edits, payer-specific requirements, and appeal processes Experience in both professional and facility coding is a plus Previous experience in coding audits or education is a plus Technically savvy, experience with Epic is highly preferred Willingness to pass a pre-hire coding assessment Proven record of accuracy, productivity, dependability, and problem-solving skills Resourceful, tactful, firm, cooperative in team setting Excellent communications skills verbal and written, with strong phone etiquette Set priorities effectively in an environment of multiple demands Communicate with insurance companies about coding errors and disputes Submit statistical data for analysis and research by other departments Ability to prepare training materials and deliver contents to selected audience Ability to fill in for coding management, allocating work to coders and communicating with administrators and providers High school diploma or equivalent Associate degree or higher is preferred.
