(Vehicle/ Equipment Repair Technician III) within the Elizabethtown Equipment Shop in Bladen County. This position will perform a range of progressively responsible tasks involving advanced diagnostics and the use of computer diagnostic software to troubleshoot and repair a wide range of light, medium and heavy duty on and off-road equipment. The selected candidate must have the ability to perform the following, read and follow electrical and hydraulic schematics, possess the physical strength to move relatively heavy objects, follow and perform written and oral instructions, multi-task while maintaining focus, prepare paperwork essential to employment and equipment repair. In this position you will be expected to perform preventative maintenance, repair, rebuild and diagnose mechanical and electrical systems on gasoline and diesel powered automotive, light, medium and heavy-duty on and off-road equipment. Work assignments will vary in complexity depending on the type of equipment and system. This candidate must be able to perform skilled mechanic work including but not limited to the following systems brakes, steering, tires and tubes, wheels, rims and hubs, transmission (auto and manual), charging systems, cranking systems, ignition systems, CAN BUS systems and associated control modules, lighting systems, cooling systems, exhaust systems, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, air conditioning, instruments & gages, and air intake systems. This candidate will be responsible for completing fuel and lube inventory, assisting other technicians in troubleshooting, and completing more complex repairs, assisting supervisor, maintaining fuel site records and inspections per NCDOT and NCDENR requirements. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Experience in performing electrical/electronic diagnostics and repair of complex wiring on two of the following: light, medium, heavy-duty trucks and heavy equipment. Experience in performing hydraulic system diagnostics, repairs and rebuilds on a variety of equipment. Experience in troubleshooting and repair of a minimum of two of the following: light, medium, heavy duty, or farm equipment brake components. Experience using SAP to receive inventory and bill parts, fuel, and lubes. Experience in inventory management including parts, fuel, and lube commodities.Additional Expectations:
The selected candidate must be able to legally operate Class A CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions and have Tanker (N) endorsement at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver's License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver's License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Pre-employment drug testing is required for this position. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing. Safety toe footwear is needed. Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.
