The Opportunity WSDOT is currently seeking multiple Electrical & Electronics Systems Specialist 3s (EESS3) to join the Olympic Region's (OR) Signal Shop. This region-wide role acts as the senior-level technician, conducting diagnoses, preventative maintenance, repair, and installation of Traffic Signals, Ramp Meters, Highway Lighting Systems, Electrical Services, and other related electrical systems within the OR. They will operate of a wide variety of electrical tools and equipment regularly performing electrical maintenance and repair in a safe and workmanlike manner. The maintenance and repair of highway electrical infrastructure is critical to ensure the safe and efficient movement of people and commerce; this position may be assigned lead duties. This position directly supports the agency strategic plan and goal areas of 1) Workforce Development, by leading a workplace that supports and promotes training and development for professional growth and upward mobility; 2) Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, by creating, influencing, and fostering a physically and psychologically safe workplace where all employees feel that they belong; and 3) Resilience, by ensuring, through adherence to WSDOT policies, that the maintenance and preservation of assigned roadways and assets are administered to the expected quality, safety, and stewardship standards to support Washington's long-term resilience. What to Expect Duties are often physical in nature and performed primarily outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Duties also performed at elevated heights of up to 100 feet in, around, and over live traffic and heights of up to 600 feet above water. Typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 40-hours per week, for 4, 10-hour days. Weekends and holidays may be required to respond to non-scheduled or call-out emergencies. On a rotational basis carry the stand-by pager for one week at a time to provide coverage 24/7 for after-hours call outs. Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the EESS3 will: Perform senior-level preventative maintenance (PM), repairs, and installation.
Test voltages, electrical connections, and grounding; test and monitor pedestrian heads and pushbuttons for proper orientation and operation.
Check signal, flashing beacon, and ramp meter operation and displays; check and monitor vehicle detection system; and check and monitor signal emergency preemption operations.
Diagnose electrical problems.
Repair third-party damages, check for damages, make the scene electrically safe, make appropriate repairs, and remove damaged equipment from the travelled roadway; collect, document, and enter all information.
Maintain accurate records and account for electrical service inventories in assigned area.
Train and instruct personnel in in safe and efficient operation of equipment, safety, maintenance procedures and best practices, and other topics related to the maintenance and repair of highway electrical infrastructure.
Utilize and operate Class "B" CDL vehicles and other electrical construction equipment and vehicles for the maintenance of signal and luminaires at heights up to 100 feet. Qualifications To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required: Five (5) years (approximately 10,000 hours) of relevant professional experience performing technical HVAC, electrical, fire system and/or electronic work. OR Completion of equivalent, relevant professional formal training through an electrical apprenticeship program, or accredited electrical or electronics training program, or vocational or technical school, military-based electrical/electronics training; agency specific in-training plan. OR A Bachelor's degree in electrical or electronics technology AND two (2) years of relevant professional experience performing technical electrical, fire system and/or electronic work.
Possession of a valid Washington State journey or master-level electrical license (EL01, EL06, EL07 or ME01) may substitute for some of the education or experience. In addition to the above, the following are also required: Possession of an unrestricted Class B CDL with N endorsement to legally operate vehicles in Washington State; or obtain within six months of date of hire.
Proficient in operating Windows based computers and software, such as MS Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Point, and Outlook; and Cloud computing.
Skills to effectively communicate information to a diverse audience, both virtually and in-person, using a variety of electronic media, including, but no limited to telephones, email, text, video conferencing, and computer conferencing.
Ability to transport, move, and manipulate various types of equipment weighing 50 pounds or more.
Ability to report in serve to assigned duty station within 80 minutes of an after-hours call.
Ability to traverse rough, steep, and uneven terrain. It is preferred that qualified candidates also have: High school graduation or possession of a GED certification
Possession of Electrical/Electronic Licenses:
Journey Level Electrician (ME01, EL01, EL02, EL04, or EL07).
Electronics Certification by Washington State CET or International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians (ISCET). Important Notes This recruitment will be used to fill two permanent positions within the Olympic Region. This recruitment may also be used to fill additional vacated positions.

Travel is an expectation of the position and may be required on a regular, sporadic, or as needed basis. In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position.
