Description:
Provide onsite support and guidance for staff focusing on creating inclusive environments for students participating in extended day programs preschool through fifth grade who benefit from additional supports, strategies, and interventions. This includes students with individual education plans, 504 plans, health conditions, or other supports needed to help them be successful in extended-day programming. This position will support the site staff, site leaders, and program coordinators in reviewing student needs and applying appropriate and reasonable program accommodations. This will be done through coaching, training, role modeling, and planning with program staff.
Job Summary:
Assist the Program Coordinators and Manager with appropriate school-age care program development, goal setting, training, orientation, and student support systems. Oversee and review a process to observe and record student behaviors to identify appropriate school-age care intervention strategies. Supervise children to ensure a safe, quality environment. Review student needs and make appropriate school-age care recommendations for staffing, environmental needs, student medical, physical, and bathroom needs, and established intervention strategies to use in extended-day programming. Greet and check-in/out children daily; maintain attendance records and informational forms so that participant safety and records are maintained. Serve afternoon snacks and maintain inventory of site supplies so that logistical needs are anticipated and met. Work collaboratively with onsite staff to create an engaging and inclusive environment with a variety of materials, activities, and resources. Research industry best practices for supporting children to meet their needs. Provide direct recommendations and coaching to staff as needed. Create positive relationships with students, site staff, families, and building staff to ensure the specific needs of children are met. Communicate as needed with parents, teachers, and office staff at the school so that programs run smoothly and problems are avoided or solved. Communicate with the Manager of EdVenture Club and Program Coordinators so that programs run smoothly and problems are discussed and solved. Maintain records, including student plans, site inclusion plans, student behavior reports, parent and staff meeting records, and implementation records. Support program leadership in parent communication and meetings as needed. Attend required School District training in Bloodborne Pathogens, Right-to-Know, and First Aid/ CPR (unless currently certified) so that participants are supervised by knowledgeable and trained staff. Complete DHS certified training (Child Development, AHT, etc.) Follow and enforce policies and guidelines of the program to ensure quality and consistency. Other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school degree, GED, or equivalent. Related training or certification is preferred but not required. Experience and skill in supporting inclusive environments for preschool and elementary-aged children. Excellent interpersonal skills. An understanding and empathy for children and willingness to work with children. Preference for working in a team structure. Ability to be organized and attend to details. Experience supervising, coaching, teaching or working with preschool and elementary youth as described in the posting.
