Swanda Aerospace is seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Quality Technician to join our welding and fabrication team. The Quality Technician will be responsible for ensuring that all manufactured products meet or exceed quality standards and customer specifications. This role involves performing inspections, documenting results, and collaborating with production staff to identify and resolve quality issues. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of welding and fabrication processes, as well as experience with quality control methodologies and inspection tools.Responsibilities may include:
Inspection and Testing:
- Conduct visual and dimensional inspections of raw materials, in-process work, and finished products.
- Perform non-destructive visual testing (VT).
- Understand and be capable of evaluating magnetic particle testing (MT), or ultrasonic testing (UT) test results from NDT suppliers as required.
- Verify weld quality according to AWS standards and customer specifications.
- Utilize precision measurement tools, including calipers, micrometers, gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
- Understand and have experience reviewing hardness testing results, tensile testing results, and other mechanical test results from destructive testing as needed.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and detailed inspection records and quality control documentation.
- Generate inspection reports and non-conformance reports (NCRs).
- Track and analyze quality data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Maintain calibration records for inspection equipment.
- Support Shipping and handling efforts by organizing and storing quality documents and related shipping and handling documents in specified locations.
Quality System Support:
- Assist in the development and implementation of quality control procedures and work instructions.
- Participate in internal and external quality audits.
- Ensure compliance with AS9100 or other relevant quality standards.
- Assist in the control of documents, and the control of non-conforming product.
Collaboration and Problem Solving:
- Work closely with welders, fabricators, and engineers to address quality concerns.
- Identify root causes of quality defects and recommend corrective and preventive actions (RCCA)
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist in first article inspections.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or technical certification in welding, quality control, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in quality control within a welding and fabrication environment.
- Strong understanding of welding processes (e.g., GMAW, FCAW, MIG, TIG, stick) and fabrication techniques.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Experience with precision measurement tools and NDT methods.
- Knowledge of AWS welding standards and AS 9100 quality management systems.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with others.
- Proficiency in the use of computers, and quality related software.
- Meet minimum vision standards to comply with AS9100 quality requirements.
Preferred Skills:
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or other relevant certifications.
- Experience with CMM programming and operation.
- Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC).
- Experience with lean manufacturing principles.
